i vote for the 69' camaro. however, i got a better time with the z28 than i did in the ss. i guess its because the ss is quite powerful and on dirt that can be a bad thing if you dont know what your doing. like me lol. it felt kinda weird putting dirt tires on my beloved camaros though Oo

Z28 has the same power output basically, but seems better balanced and is less torquey therefore can get the power down better ;)

I sorted out a Bluebird 1600 (Datsun 510) to run pretty well. The 240 ZG was good as long as I shifted it manually. It seemed like it was constantly searching for a gear. I tried the Charger too, but mostly for a Photo Drive. I absolutely love the 240RS Rally Car.

I enjoy driving FWDs on arcade mode, but haven't sorted one out to actually compete in special conditions.

In GT3 I had much better results with RWD cars. I beat Swiss Alps hard with an Elise. and Tahiti Maze Hard with a Clio Cup Racecar, and Smokey Mountain with a 300ZX. Hmmm, I haven't tried a 300ZX on the dirt yet in GT4.

Of course, maybe i haven't found the right FWD yet. I tried a Civic SiR several times...no go. :grumpy: It just can't keep up with AWD ai. It sometimes works to drive a FWD against the '74 Lancer, tho.

I worked on a Golf for awhile but it just couldn't keep up.

Yup. 305 cid engine (Z/28) versus a larger, heavier 350 cid in the SS.

The Datsuns are GREAT! yea, you gotta shift them manually. Not sure about the Bluebird, but I know in the 240Z, you have to shift it early, too. It's one of those cars that has peak power like 1,500 rpms before redline or thereabouts.

A Golf could certainly do it...they've got such great traction. It just takes a lot of restarts, practicing, and learning to drive an FF off-road.

One of my tricks is to put the car a gear higher than normal as I'm leaving most corners. In other words, if you have the urge to normally leave a tight corner in 2nd gear at Swiss Alps, try 3rd instead. You'll be able to use more throttle without slipping.

So far, I've taken an Integra and a Taurus to Swiss Alps and Citta d' Aria on the Normal level. For the easy level, add Capri Rally, Cathedral, and Paris V. I've also used a Civic SiR, CR-X, and a few other FF cars for the Easy level.

Man, I wish I had updated this thread more often. .

Anyways, got a new one: The Alpines are GREAT for rallies, despite their rear-engine. I just raced at Grand Canyon on the easy level WITHOUT a limited-slip! And below is a shot from Ice Arena, in which I roasted an all-wheel drive Toyota Celica GT-Four RC.

I used a stage 2 turbo and had to deal with moments of turbo-lag in 2nd gear, but otherwise found the Alpine easier to drive here in the snow than a Renault Cliosport V6! The Alpine did need a 2-way limited-slip at Ice Arena and Chamonix, but (like I said) such devices are optional for dirt tracks.

302 in the Z/28 ;)

Yea, I said 305. Got confused with later Camaros.

Also, rear-engine is what makes the Alpines great for rallying. More weight over the drive tires = win.

Right. My point is: driving Alpines on pavement is like taking a bath in acid. Just painful man. Always ready for a spin. But off-road they do so much better. It's an incredible difference. To spin one, you really gotta screw up.

Really? That's a surprise. I'll have to try it.

Some bad cars: So far, i've found the '67 Mercury Cougar and Chevy Chevelle aren't very good. I mean, they have the power of course, but the Cougar gets too squirrely and the Chevelle is so damn nose-heavy..it only is happy once there's a straight line ahead.

Hi, Parnelli.

If the Chevelle is front-heavy, then put the ballast weight in the back!
Ever thought of that?:sly:

EDIT:My favorite car for the rallies is a Lexus, forgot excatly which one.:nervous:

I have done this for lighter cars like the 240Z and Triumph Spitfire, not for heavyweights, tho. I'm not opposed to trying ballast for the Chevelle, have you tried it?
