It seems the music industry has quite a few of these bands.Which one(s),if any,is your favorite(s) ?

Can I be correct in saying that it seems the biggest part of the "One hit wonder" craze come out of the 80's ?

Just a few to get started here.

Red Rider - Lunatic Fringe

A Flock of Seagulls - I Ran

A-Ha - Take on me

Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen

Well, the 50's, 60's and 70's certainly had their share of one hit wonders too. A few obvious examples:

We Five -- you Were On My Mind
Four Jacks and a Jill -- Master Jack
Merrillee Rush -- Angel of the Morning
The Five Stairsteps -- O-o-o Child
Robert Knight -- Everlasting Love

A surprise to many: Jimi Hendrix, his All Along the Watchtower was his only work to break into the Top 40.

Similarly, technically speaking the Grateful Dead are a one hit wonder group. And it took 20 years before they broke into the Top 40 with Touch of Grey in 1987.

So this is a USA one hit wonders list then?

Most of them had more than one hit in the UK.

The Dandy Warhols-Bohemian Like You

I think there are regional one hit wonders. A band from the UK may have only had one hit here in the US, but they have a whole slew of hit singles back home, or vice versa.

Case in point:

Even after all these years, I still don't know what the hell those things on their heads are!

I remember this sounding a lot better. Damn cassette tapes. :P

Lots of good ones in this thread though Rick Astley had a couple other good songs.

He popped up when I read" One hit wonder" Though what else came to mind was,

NFS: Hot Pursuit series FTW!

what the heck? These guys are absolute legends, not one hitters by any means.
Sure, they're a great band and have had many great songs better than "Sell Out" but technically, in the eyes of the mainstream (inb4 hipster) media, they're considered a "one hit wonder band".

Actually one issue is just what is meant by a one-hit wonder. The metric I'm using is one appearance only on the Billboard Top 40. Admittedly that's very US-centric on my part. I would suggest that it be one-hit wonder in the poster's own country So Cilla Black, for instance, would be a one-hit wonder to me whereas she wouldn't be to you. Similarly, you could consider The Kingsmen to be one-hit wonders, whereas I could not.

BTW, a-ha in the OP did not have a one-hit wonder in either the UK or the US, and I would guess not in Norway either; they had two songs that charted in the US and UK.

Can't say i'm an A-ha fan, but i recall at least half a dozen of their songs charting high in the UK back in the day. Their first album also sold almost 12 million copies world wide.

Had it not been for Bob Dylan writing and performing All Along the Watchtower (less than a year before Jimi took it and ran),Hendrix would have never broke into the top 40.I'm not dissing on Jimi,(he was a great musician),but your right,he never did do any more chart topping after this song.

Aldo Nova - Fantasy .I like this guys material.Unfortunately he falls into this category. Loving the Leopard outfit

Gary Numan - Cars

And by my wife's choice of One Hit Wonders -
Benny Mardones - Into the Night

I *think* Timbuk 3 could be classified as a one-hot wonder? I've only ever heard of this song - but it's really awesome!👍👍

My Darkest Days song Pornstar Dancing. Their only good song.

I like that song, but I think 'The World Belongs To Me' is also really great. Actually, the whole album isn't bad overall, but those two are the best in my opinion...

I think they're barely even a one-hit wonder as most probably don't know who they are.

Goin' Down On It & Don't Want Her To Stay aren't bad, either.

The Knack - My Sharona

Los del Rio - Macarena

Baha Men - Who let the dogs out

That will do for now 👍
