Skyline GT-R is Grand Touring isnt it ? dont remember a Skyline being in BTCC, DTM or any other series, let me check :)

The R32 was in fact put together specifically for Group A regulations, and ran in the Japanese and Australian touring car championships (may have been others - dunno).

Here's a picture of the Aussie 'Godzilla' in various war trims:

great car, vat.

um, i know little about touring, could we have some history and specs?

Well, I'm going from memory here, but they debuted in Australia in late 1990 (Nissan had a factory team here for a few years up to this running HR31s), and dominated the championship in 1991 and '92 (Jim Richards winning in '91 and Mark Skaife in '92). I think in 1991 they were running at around 1350kg and around 600-650hp, but copped a big weight penalty and a pop-off valve for '92 and still won (I think they were over 1400kg and back to about 500-550hp for '92). The cars ran 4wd but not 4ws. They also won the Bathurst 1000km race in '91 and '92 - famously in '92 because the car actually crashed in a heavy downpour but the red flag had been shown.

There was a great quote from Jim Richards who got booed on the podium by the V8 lout crowd. Bear in mind this was on live TV.
"I thought Australian race fans had a lot more going for them than this, this is going to remain with me for a long time. You're a pack of arseholes!"

In Jim's defence (not that I think he needs any) he'd just had a tough day (and his good mate Denny Hulme had just died).

The car actually lead to the death of Group A in Australia and lead to the current 5.0 litre V8 formula, as demonstrated by the Tickford Falcon in GT3.

Remember them losing the second car because the glass from a broken headlight took out an oil line.

What year was that - '85? Did those cars run in Group A spec - I seem to remember them running in Group C spec the previous year.

Let me explain why:
-It won lots of IMSA races
-it won spa francorcian(is this how you spell?) 24 hrs
-it raced in grB rally
-its fast
-its got 13b wankel

I picked the Alfa 155, I can still remember that car going right up on two wheels after hitting the curb in the BTCC, Tarquini was driving I think. Just about got it back down again, magic:D

Do you remember his quadruple roll at Knockhill? Actually, I think I was at the corner where he two-wheeled it, wasn't it at the chicane of the Melbourne loop at Donington? If not, my mind's playing tricks on me again!

F2002, you missed the Volvo 850 estate! I might have voted for that. But then again I wouldn't have - I voted for the A4 quattro.

Good poll!
