Ferrari SP38 Deborah

Make that any Ferrari. They gave the market its chance and it did nothing for Ferrari to find it worth producing anymore.

Ferrari said they pumped 10 million into the manual transmission and they received only 2 orders. However I feel now that time is moved on and manual tranny has been absent from Ferrari for a few years, I recon a limited new model just with manual could be successful.

As for the SP38 not looking like the F40. You need to take into account that it is inspired by the F40, that doesn't mean it has to look like it. A more important thing to take into account is that the customer works with the designer. So parts of it may have resembled the F40 more closely until the client directed it to look as it is now. This design is what the client sign off.

Perhaps the amount of orders for it didn't increase? I don't really see how it would be difficult to stuff a stick shift into 488's powertrain (unless they're incompatible), but I'm pretty sure there must be a good reason why there's no special edition Ferrari with a manual tranny, even if it's a business decision.

Still, it would be incorrect to say that the lack of rear window was inspired by F40, which clearly had a rear window.

I'm not sure about it personally, the rear treatment seems Zagato-esque and the car as a whole puts me in mind of the FZ93 in some ways. Ordinarily I do love me some Zagato but I'm not sure this marque should ever see a sweep of that brush, it suits more vulgar, boisterous-looking cars and marques somehow. I'm not seeing the F40 and 308 influence at all. Oddball.

Because it's not cost effective to engineer a manual for the car when there is no market for it. Ferrari developed the 599 & California to have a manual option as a result of people saying they wanted manual transmissions; Ferrari built 3 manual Californias & less than 40 599s because all the people clamoring for a manual were people not even in Ferrari's market. Just internet fan boys & old men wanting their glory days of when shifting was the sign of a true man.

It's the same reason none of these special one-offs have a unique chassis underneath either. The resulting car would likely end up being over 8 figures for the owner to have a truly, one-off car.

I...I don't see that at all. Is there anything in particular? I understand that something like "as a whole" can't be easily quantified, but I'm genuinely interested--unlike a number here on GTP (I'm looking at you, @TenEightyOne :grumpy:), I actually appreciate the FZ93's avant-garde styling.

Yeah, I can see Ferrari being disappointed about manual gearboxes being unpopular among actual customers. But oh well, that's why you shouldn't cater to fanboys.

I was pretty sure P4/5 had a bespoke chassis, but the short research said it's Enzo's. I'm quite grateful how you made me look that up.
I'm pretty sure these SP cars don't have bespoke interiors besides some markings - so far every SP car I know has an interior almost completely identical to that of a base car it was made from.

Yeah, that's a bit of an oddity, but I imagine that that's because the donor car's tub underneath may cause some limitations. A bit sad because it's hard to believe the P540 SA is a 599 donor as they really went further with its design than say, the 458MM or F12 SP cars, enough where it actually altered the chassis a bit to accommodate it. Shame they couldn't change its interior up. Eric Clapton's is another I like that deviates a bit from its 458 donor. No pics of his interior tmk, but I'm sure (& sad) it's a standard interior, too.

Oh, you probably meant completed interior...

:P

I'm not sure, it's probably just me. I think it's the way both look like bits of three different cars spliced together. It also reminds me of the Lamborghini Cala, in that it manages to somehow not look like a Ferrari.

In all I really like it... but it does look like it's popping a sprog!
