System 3 is proud to announce the latest addition to its critically acclaimed racing simulation series 'Ferrari The Race Experience' for Wii and PS3 games consoles.

Ferrari The Race Experience will be the company’s first AAA game released as download only content for the PS3 format, via Sony’s online PSN Network, and will be followed by another 6 key titles on PS3, PSP, Apple iPad and iPhone (Apple Store) over the next 3 months.

First screens and movies will be revealed soon. Ferrari The Race Experience will be released on Wii and the PlayStation Network in September 2010.

Releasing any racing game in the wake of F1 2010 and on the eve of GT5 would appear to be commercial suicide. I'm a fan of Supercar Challenge, but I can't see myself buying this for the aforementioned reasons.

Strong possibility I'll buy. I do hope that they haven't just reused assets like Supercar Challenge.

I hope the A.I. is sorted too.

Maybe GT5, but I doubt F1 2010 will pose itself as any sort of threat larger than what TDU:2 is.

NFS:HP will probably also do just fine after GT5.

What do you expect from a download-only title, announced very shortly before release?

This probably is Supercar Challenge, more or less updated, and featuring only Ferraris if I go by the title.
If this really was a new AAA title it would be released on disc.

+1, IMO they're just trying to take a few more drops of milk from the same old cow.

Sorry...I should have clarified. I don't mean 'object assets', I mean I hope the game includes are new tracks and cars.

Looking at the information again it does say 'dazzling new circuits' which indicates at least 2 new locations...but I hope for more in addition to the content on Supercar Challenge.

I don't recall Ferrari Challenge being "hugely successful", this game sounds like a pass. Also, who designed that cover art because it looks horrible.

amar posted this on NeoGAF.

And here is semi-official description of what F:TRE is:

"F:TRE contains all of the DLC for FC plus a few new features including an updated Career Mode. The handling model is the same but the SCC "style of handling" selector has been carried over. It will be released on PSN for PS3 and boxed product for Wii. The Wii version contains all the updates that were patched in to the PS3 version."

Thanx to Dave from ETQ
So it's Ferrari Challenge GotY Edition

:grumpy:

Just because it's a PSN release doesn't mean it'll appear in the US. I'm also curious to know how big it'll be. I'm glad it's a DLG 'cause that means it'll probably be cheap. (most expensive DLG so far is GT5P at $30.) But I'll wait to get this one 'cause I'll probably be playing TDU2. :P

'cause they're crazy....and it's a DLG. So...I mean, I might buy it to have it. That way, when I'm not playing Dirt 2 or TDU2 or some other game, I can mess around with this. However, I'm concerned that the content is going to be lacking as it's a DLG. There might be a few more cars than the last Ferrari Challenge game, and 458 will probably be the main car that we'll race with. But, I don't know...

I don't see why it wouldn't though, even if they don't have it on the US store, it's not hard to make an account for a region that does have it, so in a sense even if it's not officially released here it will still unofficially be available. Regardless I don't see anyone buying this unless there is some huge difference between Ferrari/Supercar Challenge and this game(which doesn't sound to be the case).

From what I understand, the game is going to be the same as Ferrari Challenge but will include all of the cars and tracks that were available as DLC (there weren't that many) and will include the 'revised' handling selector from Supercar Challenge. But for technical reasons, the game will be incompatible online with the original Ferrari Challenge and you won't be able to race anybody on-line between the two versions. Madness.

To me, it makes more sense to buy Supercar Challenge. It includes ALL of the cars from Ferrari Challenge, all of the tracks, and a lot of small improvements that add up. I know Eutechnyx is still working on bringing SCC to the US in the Fall and it will not only include some new features and small technical improvements but it WILL be backward compatible online with the PAL version of SCC. Whether it sells or anybody is interested once GT5 is out is another issue. But at least it presents a viable alternative.

If you want Ferrari Challenge you can still find and buy the game, brand new for $15~$20. It won't include the DLC though.

I had thought it was SCC, with only Ferraris and a game play change whereby you have to let your Spanish team-mate pass you after receiving a not very well coded radio message.

More seriously...... if the price is right I might be interested. I liked Ferrari challenge for all the reasons Biggles put in his thread so if this makes it better.......

I'm assuming this will be a cross between FC and SCC just with more, and only Ferraris. I would've thought that's a step backwards, would like to see a sequel to SCC more than FC.

Can you confirm you understood that message?

I haven't had a PS3 for almost half a year to be aware of any changes to PSN but I remember being able to setup account in different regions including Japan so that I could buy non-NA release downloadable games. That's how I bought my first copy of Prologue months before the US release. DLC on the other hand might have region restrictions which is the case with Ferrari Challenge's car pack released a while ago.

What is more frustrating to me is they have a great forcefeed feel about there games which is awesome. But lack in so many areas for instance is there going to be pit stops tyre wear proper damage which affects handling. The simple things that would enhance there reputation so much. They have a great base for a simulater abit more effort is required.

I understood the message. Here, straight from the horse's mouth: http://forums.eutechnyx.com/index.php/topic,1658.0.html

This is nothing but a PSN release of Ferrari Challenge with a few simple updates.

Interesting. I know Eutechnyx recently finished a complete overhaul of their site and I figure that the link was simply broken. But when I went to find the thread, I found it still exists, but most posts had been deleted. Eutechnyx (the developer) is generally very open with the community while System 3 (the publisher of FC) isn't. Chandra from System 3 was a good guy and did his best to answer many questions I posed to him over the last year. But he is still a System 3 employee and I'm guessing they didn't much appreciate an open post on the developers site essentially saying, they really didn't want to make Ferrari: The Race Experience but they were contractually bound to do so. It was decidedly downbeat (and rightfully so) and in that sense, I can understand why it and the accompanying posts were pulled.

FWIW, although I can no longer provide official backup, what we were told in the post, before it disappeared, Ferrari:TRE IS Ferrari Challenge with all the DLC included, a brand new car that wasn't in the DLC (in the form of the 458 Italia) and the updated handling model from Supercar Challenge. Otherwise, it's exactly the same as the Ferrari Challenge game you can find in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart for $15. But because of updated Sony Libraries, people who buy F:TRE will not be able to race anybody online in Ferrari Challenge. Madness.

While I miss the music and some of the more interesting visuals of the FC replays, essentialy, Supercar Challenge was a better game.

- It had ALL of the cars and tracks from Ferrari Challenge.
- It has all of the cars and tracks from F:TRE (except for the 458 Italia)
- It has better lobby options.
- Many bugs have been corrected
- It's more stable on-line with less lag
- It has many little improvements and tweaks suggested by the community (Eutechnyx listens to their customers)
- It has an additional cockpit view

For somebody who never owned Ferrari Challenge, it's probably a good buy.

But for people in North America, Eutechnyx confirmed they will be releasing Supercar Challenge (hopefully sometime this fall) and I think it's the smarter purchase. If only because it supposedly WILL be compatible with PAL version of Supercar Challenge.

The reason I didn't get Ferrari Challenge was mainly because Mark Cale was such a pathetic little child when he was promoting FC. And because of the poor graphics and awfull brownish colours. I've played FC before I decide if I should get or not. I'm glad I didn't.

Pathetic little child? I'm not sure about that. But one thing is for sure, he made a lot of bold claims for which they were unable to deliver.

Still, brown colors aside, you did miss a VERY good game. I liked FC a lot and played it to death. But I wouldn't go and buy it a 2nd time. ;)
