Quali: 3rd
Feature race: 1st
Sprint race: 2nd
Decent quali position - 3rd - but poor quali pace. Actually - everyone besides Michouw seemed to struggle to get anywhere near their best times...
Managed to keep it clean for most of the race - a few offs on the odd occasion, but all were saveable and didn't cost me too much time
I must say - that's probably one of the very few occasions on GT6 when I've won a race and not really felt like a winner. My driving was reasonably consistent, but hella slow. I dipped into the 21's on the mediums on only a few occasions but in practise my PBs on heavy fuel were in the low 21's consistently.
I'm sorry that so many people had terrible races as well. Hopefully I didn't contribute to any of the on-track carnage which ensued, although I do remember accidentally cutting a few corners here and there, but hopefully it won't be bad news for me when the stewards look into it.
The race itself was a quiet one really. I benefited from Litchi having an uncharacteristically bad quali run to snatch 3rd and it looked like being in 4th meant he got tangled up on lap 1, after we had to do a second formation lap due to some incidents during the first.
So, while Michouw and Racingline eased away into the sunset, I was left all alone in third for the first half. The fact that CodDemon also went off when behind me meant that it was simply a case of keeping the car on track as my pace was decent enough at least to pull away from the midfield pack.
Then it came to the pit 'window' and I decided to stay out longer than most on my hards. And at one point I even considered going the full distance as I saw that I might just have had enough fuel to make it to the end without needing to refuel. But I played it safe, relinquished the lead back to an unusually slow Michouw, who I then went on to catch and pass toward the end of the race to take the victory.
My race was reasonably incident free, but guys - some of you were really bad when it came to the Blue Flags. Please, there's really no excuse for trying to battle with the people who are coming up to lap you. It didn't just happen to me either - I saw in my mirrors that it was happening to others as well... All you need to do is lift off the throttle for about a second when on a straight so that a safe pass can be made. And if you're excuse is that "I didn't know you were lapping me" then simply take a look to the right of the screen where you'll find the driver list - if the car behind isn't also behind you on the driver list then it probably means one of two things: you're being lapped; or you've just lapped someone.
A bit more consideration from now on, please
Anyway, happy to get two strong results on my debut, stewards decisions pending of course. Only thing is though, things can't really get much better than that so it may be all downhill from here on out
WD to crelou as well, who had a strong 1st race result to mean we get a good team points haul in our first race, provisionally. Go Team SRT!
In race two - grats to Gabguss. I tried and tried to pass you but the R8 has such good straight line speed that even when I did manage to sneak past on those few odd occasions, you would just power back to level with me before the next corner and regain the lead. I'm sorry for those taps I gave you here n there, honest mistakes, nothing intentional.
See you all for some practise at Monza
