I think you're very confused. There has to be something else going on. If you have any questions as to why Firefox isn't evil, or you would like to know more about open-source and why it is generally more secure, then we're here to inform you.

well i have "sweeping programs" not preventave programs i have not seen one yet thats preventave, and when i got firefox a few days later it said my computer is in danger and i scanned for spyware, i found 3 or 4 diffrent trojans that were not there before

What said that?

Firefox is spyware free. If you had spyware on your computer, it was not from Firefox.

Most antiviruses are preventative. They scan the files before the user downloads them. Try AVG Free 7.1 and Windows Defender (formerly Windows AntiSpyWare). Keep them running all the time your computer is on.

I think the problem isn't with Firefox, but with the user. Even IE can be used safely if you don't visit dodgy sites, know what programs you install, and be careful about downloading attachments. You just need a decent antivirus, firewall and some kind of spyware defense.

Road Dogg is right. The most vulnerable part of a computer is not the browser or operating system, but the one in front of the monitor.

The good old ES2O or PEBKAC error.

its because of freiken firefox my computer crashed and here is a good question why would someone just offer a free web browser!!!

Is Google not one of the best/most popular search engines ever?

Do they charge?

no.

Firefox alone did not allow hackers add thousands of malicious files to your computer, end of story. You would be worse off if you had been using Internet explorer.

As I understand it...

The thread starter got hit by a lot of spyware/adware which co-incided with him installing Firefox. The spyware/adware almost certainly came from using IE in the past. His dad scanned the PC for spyware/adware and found about 1000 objects. His dad scalded him for using Firefox, wrongly believing that did the damage and now he hates Firefox because he also seems to believe it (or did when he came here).

Well, it sounds to me like you've come across one of those bogus ads "Your Computer Is In Danger, Click Here To Remove Viruses" or something simliar, have believed it and clicked to download the 'software' to fix your pc, which didn't have any problems in the first place... perhaps smarter browsing would be good to practice for the future...

Revolution.

Are you telling me to "think" before I click ?... I thought the InterLink were safe - I'm so disappointed :grumpy:

Don't worry. We discovered that in fact whereismk was, in fact, the postings of a deranged piece of spyware itself, all stemming from Famine's computer. We would have pinged it sooner, but for the fact that the spyware in question didn't know about the indigo tag. It wasn't very good at being spyware. Or posting. Still, not to worry. The big ban button got pressed, and that's very much more comprehensive than Windows Defender.

I see that he's been banned. Hopefully he at least learned something in his short time here. I think he clicked on one of these, thinking it was going to help his computer.

Instead, those sites actually install spyware and possibly the Vundo trojan.

Edit:  @ Giles' post

Since this wasn't Firefox's fault, maybe a change from "firefox evil" to "Hackers Evil" would be appropriate.

Although our friend HACKr may not approve of this move.

Whoa, I just read this today, And I do not approve of this measure.

</end public statement>
