All of those options are garbage except for the CLA, which you can't get for $16K. Get a second-generation Miata in black. Looks very good.

Something slow and 4 doors. Less than 200 HP with a NA engine. Good crash results when wrapped around a tree.

Used 1998-2011 Ford Crown Victoria.

There is a reason why the Police use these. They are well built, offer a smooth ride and have plenty of space.

Although out of your choices, I would go with the Volvo.

If you buy a Crown Vic just buy one that's actually an old cop car from an auction. Bonus points for black on black paint with the ram bar still attached.
Oh, look at that.
200 HP
4-door
Good crash test ratings

The cop spec versions have ballistic door panels. Might help if you live in the ghetto. :mischievous:

3. Volvo S60 2009-2012

Budget: $16,000

I will just go on and tell you...you won't find a second generation S60 for $16,000. Autotrader pulled up two however...but both had been in accidents and one was being sold in wrecked condition.

On the other hand, first generation S60's for under $16 grand are everywhere. They are great cars, I had an '01 2.4 for my first car.

You should look at 2007-up S80's. Lots of them are falling under the $16k mark. I recently picked up an '07 3.2 for under that mark. A 2007 S80 will be more modern than a 2007 S60.

If you still insist on the S60, the first generation model years were 2001-2009, with a facelift for 2005. And as tempting as they are, DO NOT GET AN S60-R. Do some research and you'll see why.

Guys, I'm not saying I'm going to get a sports car as a first car. You guys are quick to assume I'm going to be a teenager who is going to buy a powerful car as a first. I just want to hear your opinions and recommendations.

I need a reliable car that would last me thousands of miles before breaking down, good milage( 24-30mpg), non expensive to get repaired when needed.

What about a hatch?
Mazda2, Fiat 500, Ford fiesta, Honda fit?
All base models and used, are these better choices than the ones I already mentioned?

Honda Fit is a really enjoyable car to drive. Great steering, engine, and gearbox. The car is very practical and very big inside. Really economical too, 40 MPG on the highway and about 28 in town. Very reliable, my parent's haven't had any issues with theirs so far. I think it has about 25,000 miles on it now. If you get a small car like that, though, you pretty much have to get a manual. Small cars with small engines feel very slow with autos, but can feel pretty quick with a good manual.
