First Gran Turismo Sport Live Event of 2019 Set for Paris March 14–18

I'll provide a late quick rundown of Team Mercedes' evening on Saturday:

Qualifying: because I did such a great job last time, I did qualifying again, and promptly stuck it 8th on the grid. Top 6 really should've been achieved but I'm a bit of a mug so yeah.

Race 1: same track as quali, so me in the car again. Got past the Evo on the first lap after JAdams hooked the car on the curb at Westfield and got a big slide on. The Renault died a few laps later and that would be all the positions I would gain, P6 in the end.

Race 2: Yusuke in the car for Tokyo, and we got past the Subaru before turn 1. The grunt of the Gr.4 Merc sorted us out, and ultimately we would make another two places from our grid position and end P4.

Race 3: THAT turn 1 happened, and even though Pedro also slid off with the rest of them, we actually gained two positions from the whole thing. The Renault and Nissan would lunge us at the chicane later on, and then we resisted a relentless attack from the P5 Porsche until the very last lap. Unfortunately we missed our braking point at the final corner and killed said Porsche, earning us a post-race penalty and dropping us to P9.

Final Race: Pedro started the race on mediums and it was going reasonably until we were one of the casualties in the turn 12 disaster. From there, I got in to do the hard stint, which consisted of the chat getting strangely angry at me, and then Yusuke crossing the line on the softs in P7.

P7 in the point ranking, overall perhaps an evening of "what could've been"...

I talk about future tracks, not present tracks. And i was there.

Since it clearly isn't a prerequisite for current tracks being part of FIA races, what evidence do you have that future tracks in the game must be?

I believe you were there, I am just telling you that Yamauchi did not explicitly confirm to you that Spa and Silverstone were definitely going to be in the game based on your quote. You are just drawing that conclusion.

Yamauchi lives for questions that are open to interpretation, and unfortunately you asked him one.

That's why i explicitly tell him about Spa and Silverstone after he said more international tracks are coming, to be sure and clean about this. He said "yes, of course" vigourously, with a big smile. It was clear and explicit, and it was not the first time this question was ask this week-end, as a i understood. He also said, when i precise the Japanese Circuits (Sugo, Motego, Okayama), those three tracks will come also, but after some international tracks has come.

Sorry if i was unclear and a bit annoyed and being annoying.

Hahah welcolme to GTPlanet :P and thank you for all these cool news.

It's good to know that !

Those japanese tracks are very attractive and with Super GT and Super Formula which will arrive end of march, these trackss must be in GT Sport

What did you guys who raced think about the length of the races?
Always too short, especially for those in Nations who I can only imagine put hours of work practicing all the combos only to be eliminated too early. Yes, I do understand the argument about the realities of holding an audience's interest and needing buffer time for technical issues but neither streams even made it to the three hour mark. Not to say that is a deterent to me continue trying to make these events. Just that a few people might've had more playing time with my old school GT games than playing time at the Pavillion. :boggled:

Just finished watching both manu and nations, overall the racing was great.
So happy for Aston Martin as I picked them in the exhibition series, hopefully it doesn't get nerfed otherwise I'll have to find another manufacturer. (Also depending on the info that is still TBA)
I'm not sure what everyone is carrying on about penalties or the lack of them. Maybe there were a lot of incidents that weren't shown on stream that we don't know about. The group B bumping seemed ok as there weren't any huge punts, just bits of contact that you would get away with in GRC.
Was hoping for a Super Formula race at Autopolis to get a sneak peek at the new car but will have to wait for next week's update.
I noticed Igor Fraga's heroes were listed as Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo, good to see he is a fan of Dan.
Also noticed the winners got an actual Tag Heuer watch instead of a smartwatch from last year.

I figured I should dump a few more tidbits about my experiences with the World Tour. There's more than this but I'll save that for later.

1. Air France has okay service but in this day and age, having no Wi-Fi option or any charging ports whatsoever on a 10+ hour international flight is pretty sad. The movie selection was middling and their headphone jacks were of a different type. Got zero sleep going to Paris even with sleeping pills but somehow managed a few brief periods on the way back.

2. The weather in Paris was mostly overcast with periods of rain and gusts. That's how the weather back where I live usually is but nope, it was nice and sunny when I left. Thankfully, that was still the case when I returned.

3. Due to above, the top of the Eifel tower was closed the day some of us walked there. I was under it, at least.

20190314_163725.jpg

4. Yes, there were protests in the area during our stay. What was eerie is that some of us walked through areas both before and after that happened. Broken glass, graffiti and several structures burned was all around and yet, people went on with their business the day after.

5. The day of the protests, the police closed off the general area around the Pavillion. Obviously, we were allowed inside but it was incredible how empty it was when there was tons of people and vehicles the day before.

20190316_101355.jpg

6. Hotel elevator required swiping your key inside, then pushing the floor you wanted to access. People wanted multiple floors, that meant multiple swipes. Naturally, this confused a lot of us. At one point, I had gone on the elevator at the bottom, swiped but couldn't make any of the buttons light up. It went to the top floor where someone told me it wasn't working.

7. I rode from the airport to the hotel via minivan, by myself. On the way back, the mode of transportation ranged from a sedan to a actual bus. Got the minivan again but at least it wasn't empty.

8. My room was on the small side and I had a view of the street without being able to see the Eifel tower. Could've been worse as some had a view of the open area in the middle of the hotel.

9. I had brought my PS2 with old GT games to Vegas Regionals but couldn't get it working. I bought equipment to connect via HDMI and a power converter before my trip in hopes that it would work. After a few failed attempts, she was up and running. A fair number of visitors gave it a go. Yes, there are a few videos of these fun times which will go up eventually. In the meantime, here's @TRL LIGHTNING showing that his skills aren't limited to GT Sport.

I saw you get bullied out of quite a lot of places @ Fuji and it was tough to see :( the mid-pack madness is real man... you kept it cool and respectable though 👍

Hopefully they'll add a few more laps to these sprint races in future events to alleviate the aggression a bit.

To be fair I didn't get bullied at Fuji, the dirt though ye there was punt/bully galore. At Fuji though I just ended up in the mid-pack scrap which just slowed us down sooooo much. Dan nailed his braking point perfectly for turn 1 on lap 1 (I literally had no idea where to brake for turn 1 as I'd never done a rolling start in this category, same as others), then it was just the incidents that slowed everyone down. Igor I let past as I knew he would go for the move there and as he had 42 laps fresher tyres it made sense to me as I didn't want to fall back into the scrap for 10th.

But ye I'm not going down the carnage route irrespective if others are, not losing the principles I race by for glory. But Manufacturers should be a little cleaner and much better for me time management wise, nations wise I'll just do if I get chance from now on. I want to race GT3/GT4 on stage, not rally :D!

Finished the nations cup few minutes back.

What an event man.

That Rally race was simply phenomenal. Fraga's lead holy **** man. Lenoir with 4 was awesome driving.

Hizals overtake on Gardens and the driver glance lol.

Congrats to Rubilar. Great drive. Was always in the hunt. Hizal surprisingly was poor on Hard Tyres but the pit stop really took the sting out of him i think.

Great event.

I got hit off turn 1 and dropped to 10th as you all saw, but my race wasn't over. At least, until I was used twice as a wall by other cars to take the hairpin. Both incidents were off screen and for "only" 10th position, a position the stewards didn't even realise would secure you a spot in the repechage (true fact).

Late reply but I've been watching through and I'm confused how you dropped from 10th to 11th on the final lap at the hairpin. The guy behind was a good 0.7s back, did he really punt you from there?

I wasn't going to go into details so as not to be seen as 'salty' but seeing as you've asked...

He was a bit more than a second behind me going into that corner. That hairpin you have to come back on yourself for the optimum line and I was just about to hit the apex and he hit me. Yes, I was on worn tyres, but you do not gain more than a second in one braking zone/corner. The same thing happened at 1:07:12.

I was absolutely fuming at the end of that race and went straight to the stewards. Wolfgang Reip was steward director and he said the move was clean and didn't even warrant a warning. Biggest joke I've heard in a while.

In both cases, the driver behind would have not gained time if they braked and turned in the way they did if my car was not there to be used as an object for them to get round the corner.

Amongst most of us drivers this kind of driving is expected from at least one of the offenders mentioned above, but the saddest thing is it seems this should also be the expected standard from the stewards as well. I really hope they improve for Nurburgring, for everyone's sake.

A question for the drivers: does the FIA &/or PD provide you with a written set of rules & regulations for the races, or, is it just a free for all like in Sport Mode online?

Yes. By email before the event and a handout for the driver briefings before practice and the races. For example there is a long list of situations where penalties will be incurred, but these aren't adhered to it for the most part it seems.

Another info dump because knowing me, I'm going to forget.

1. Really unfortunate that Ant fell ill and was pretty much out of action from Friday on forward. Seeing team Chevy take photos with just two people was odd.

2. FIA headquarters was directly on the route to the Pavillon Gabriel. Didn't think we would actually get to go inside. These rigs were just outside the meeting room where major decisions are made. The building also has a spot with a rather good view of the area including the chaos that is Paris traffic.

20190315_155158.jpg 20190315_153906.jpg

3. The restrooms in the Pavillon required going down a rather narrow steep staircase. Thankfully, no incidents that I'm aware of.

20190315_135848.jpg

4. The Supra and Alpine parked outside the Pavillon were real. The Lambo was not.

20190315_145427.jpg

5. We were told before the event that there would be no brake mods installed... only for them to be on all the rigs. Thankfully, they got removed from the rigs on set. However, I believe only one of the rigs outside the set didn't have the mod.

6. To my recollection, the driver briefing included a discussion about dealing with people exiting pit road at Brands Hatch during the race. The only issue with that was that Brands Hatch was only a five lap race with no pit stop required.

7. Something that was forgotten about during the driver briefing was the glitch at Fuji where someone could bounce off the wall on pit entry and gain time by skipping part of the animation. A few were trying to explain this later on but an actual example of this was needed. Thankfully, I was able to pull up on my phone the Manu race where I made an awkward attempt at it. Message delivered.

8. Gran Turismo is a harder game that people realize. I didn't even have the luxury of an analog controller back then but the sticks aren't much better. Just watch.

That seems fairly generic. There are already real tracks "like" Spa or Silverstone in game. They're just not Spa or Silverstone.

Anyway it would be nice to play them if they come.

Edit: I've just read your response above and my point still stands.
I'm interpreting his use of the word "like" as a question, as a replacement for him meaning "specifically".

"You mean, 'international' tracks, like: Spa and Silverstone?"

"You mean, 'international' tracks. Specifically, Spa and Silverstone?"

Unless he really does mean:
"You mean, 'international' tracks that are like Spa and Silverstone?"

I clearly use the first one to specifically said Spa and Silverstone.

Final info dump about the World Tour. Linked a few of my videos here and the rest are all up on my channel:

1. A certain someone pushed us to do the Triangle Challenge. First time I heard of it and yes, there is video of a few attempts floating out there.

2. The Bathrobe Boys was a thing in Paris. They even paid my room a visit. I believe one of them didn't have their key on them so I assume they had to walk to reception like that.

3. I did ask during the driver briefing why the Tokyo Race was changed to Gr4. I can't recall the exact brief answer but let's just say it was done for entertainment value.

4. Anyone that really wants to explore the area they are visiting to ask for early arrivals/late departures. You may need to pay for your own room at a different hotel and arrrange your own transportation to/from the airport but it is possible. Once you start doing GT related stuff, it's hard to find spare time.

5. The lighting within the Pavillon made picture taking frustrating. A lot of my shots just did not come out well.

6. The stream was not the only place where a rally in GT was held.

7. Yes, Kaz danced during the afterparty. Pretty much a guarantee during any of these events that you'll witness it.

8. One of the podium practices involved using a water bottle as a stand-in for a trophy.

9. When the stage is quiet, team radio isn't always necessary.

10. If you ever have the displeasure of watching F1 on RTL, always remember that every ridiculously long commercial break ends with Krombacher.

11. We had several challenges at the various rigs during the afterparty. They included running a non-BOP Gr3 BMW at RBR, trying to drive a Gr3 Nissan on comfort tires and drifting a Corvette around Suzuka East.

12. I have some competence with creating memes. Here's three of my personal favorites.

You've highlighted exactly why if you're going to have a crack at asking a question to someone who gives vague answers it needs to be a very direct question like;

"Will Spa and Silverstone be added to GT Sport?"

Instead we are debating what the question means based on what word was exaggerated.

I give up. You guys just made me sick. This "debate" about words is just ridiculous. I've got a confirmation, and others people have the same response. But you decide to tell me i'm wrong and basically make an exaggeration and predictions. I've just sign in to this forum to give some news i've got and photos of the event, and you just throw me away. That's why i hesitate because of bad experience of flaming. You will not get me this time. Take care of you and don't be sectarian anymore. Bye.
