First in game look at "standard" cars in Granturismo 6

...Well he arcade mode of random AI cars is back :( I had wished for a class system, or event creator. Have I missed something or am I alright to be let down?

the annoying thing after the graphics in gt5 is that we cant see all of the customizations in the car (standards)
I hope PD will fix that in gt6..

All i can say is it would be a major letdown if you are driving on one of those new GT6 circuits amidst the beautiful scenery, sun slowly going down... and then you notice a pixelated PS2 era standard roaring it's ugly head...
That's that anti-standard car argument in a nutshell. And one that I agree with. But there are loads of threads on that already so I won't get carried away 🤬

Many standard cars look good in GT5 already...

If they update the texture quality of poor looking ones and slightly more of good ones. It is Pretty good.
This is why I have over 1000 Standards in GT5. Some stock, some modified, some the equivalent of Race Modded. Sure, there are some stinkers that have come straight from GT3 like the Opel Speedster, but most of them look dandy. And this is in GT5. Of course, your dandy may vary...

One more thing to consider, especially with further shots, is LOD (level of detail).

A standard optimization in games. GT have been swapping models from game and reply on all the GTs, though this isn't true LOD, its likely still happening in extreme instances.

Considering all cars work in photo mode, the exteriors should be up to par... Interiors are a different story that not everyone uses anyway.

Personally I would take generic interiors in all cars to double the amount of cars on track. But that's just me.

That's where adaptive tessellation comes in. Now the game can infinitely scale the detail of models on the fly, rather than relying on two or three low-poly models for long distances and a super high-poly model when the camera is close by. I would think it would be more efficient, but people a lot more knowledgable than me seem to think it won't make a significant difference on PS3 hardware.

This is what I've been thinking and nobody has really answered... wouldn't ALL of the exteriors have to be remodeled at least minimally to work with the new rendering engine? I just wouldn't think LOD would work with an adaptive engine... would it?

Impossible to tell from those pics.

Ya some really don't look that bad while others look awful. What makes the standards most recognizable ( other than tinted windows) is the light reflections on the paint and the low poly count wheel arches. Those wheel arches remind me of something out a an early 2000s NFS game lol

I think Jordan would have definitely investigated some cars known to be former standard cars in GT5 when he played at Willow Springs, and the fact that he hasn't written up anything about them kind of confirms that there isn't anything too special about them to rave about. Surely if they looked so much better it would have made it in to his impressions article.

Or maybe the opposite and none of them caught his attention negatively.... but I almost guarantee you are right.

So because someone didn't mention standards at all, and that confirms that standards are not very well done? Can you please give us your thoughts on the Course Maker, Car Customization, new tire and suspension modeling that also weren't mentioned? What about the 1190 cars he didn't drive, any reviews?

I had that miike snow song in my custom tracks list in GT5 before GT6 thought it was cool. And we'll just have to wait until it comes out to really see the difference.

He said all cars were available to drive, so surely he tested a standard or at least looked at one to see the difference.

As for suspension modelling, that has to do with the physics, which he did cover. He said that a lot of menu options were locked out, which is likely why he didn't go in to details on those other features. Please note the Course Maker isn't even going the be in the game we get on the release day, rather it will be released in an update.

Just speculating, but cars and tracks are 2 things he had open access to, for sure, so we know he could have plainly seen the quality of them, just like how he commented on the sounds.

Maybe there's gonna be a surprise and he doesn't want to spoil?

Though I doubt it...

I think maybe he doesn't just want to point out any large negatives in the game at this point.
He didn't get to play the game long enough to make any ridiculously large claims either positive or negative. As with any game, the negatives rear their head over time unless they are really glaring.

That leads hope the Standards weren't a big issue.

He drove 3 cars and was critical of AI, frame rate, shadows and loading times. Why would he hold back on Standards? If anything he's a journalist, and he'd want the scoop if there were something to scoop. Your reasoning makes no sense.

That's a fair call, but while he was critical, he wasn't harshly so; stating that this wasn't the final release and bug fixing is still in progress. The quality of standards is something that has no chance of being fixed within the last 2 weeks of bug fixing.

Maybe he didn't look at them properly, and that's fine, I just figure that for Jordan, who takes it upon himself to try and find out as much information as he can, and knowing that the quality of Standards is something the community has been wanting to know about for a long time, and knowing he has complete access to them, it would have been a high priority to get the info.

It also makes sense for him to appear critical in order to be objective, but I understand not being overly so, as the fan base of the game are his whole clientele..

But maybe I'm wrong. Guess we will find out soon enough.

Surely you've looked at some of the threads on GTP, what could possibly make you think any of the fanbase here would be afraid of criticism:lol:

Note also that while you are drawing a conclusion based on omission, you're also calling @Jordan 's integrity into question. Well done:lol::ouch:
