Ok, My computer was recently reformatted because it had a virus on it. When we reinstalled windows, we couldn't find the MSOffice CD that came with the computer. I had to Download OpenOffice, but it came with no fonts. The problem I'm having is that the few fonts I have downloaded (from various other places), refuse to be installed. I go in with explorer, and every time I try to move a font, it says "Font is in use and cannot be moved. Please close all other applications and try again." every time I try to install the fonts (using Explorer because OpenOffice won't do it for me) that message pops up. What can I do?

You should of backed up all of your data before you formatted your drive. You can download MS Office... it starts with a K. All fonts should be placed in the "C:/Windows/Fonts/" folder.

If the font is in in the form of a zip file, then extract the *.ttf or *.fon file and simply drag it into the c:/windows/fonts folder. When I install fonts, I keep the Fonts folder open along with the source folder and WnZip application...this way it tells me if the font is installed already or not.

If you need the most common Microsoft Windows fonts (Arial, Verdana, Times New Roman, Webdings) they are available through the MS website for free.

I think the TrueType fonts are installed with Windows. The Microsoft Typography site is no longer available.

If you look in one of the Photoshop forums here, there are links to sites with freeware fonts. Make sure you have Garamond, Verdana and Trebuchet MS, as they're the fonts my site uses! ;)

Speaking of which, did you just wreck forums.giles-guthrie.com? :mischievous:

You know, that's exactly what I've been doing, and it hasn't been working all to well (error message posted above).

I actually did back up most of the stuff that we use, such as registration files and stuff like that. It didn't occur to me and my dad at the time that the MS Office CD was M.I.A. and so didn't botherto back up the fonts. The one problem I'm having is that I can't install new fonts because I don't have Word to install them.
