Baros sets record for speeding in Ferrari

LYON, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Olympique Lyon's Czech forward Milan Baros was caught speeding at 271 kph in his Ferrari, a club source confirmed on Friday.

Local newspaper Le Progres quoted police as saying the former Liverpool player had broken the record for speeding for that French region, set by a motorcyclist who reached 248 kph in 2000.

Baros was driving on a motorway not far from Lyon on Thursday when he was caught by French police, who confiscated the black Ferrari and took his driving licence.

The 26-year-old, sidelined by an injury, had to take a taxi back to Lyon. He faces a heavy fine and a three-year driving ban.

Wonder which model he was driving...

This is about 168 mph for the record. And did the article say it was regional?

And from what I can experienced, the French are horrible speeders. The only cars I saw that could have been going over the 130 (82) limit was the occasional crotch rocket or Megane. But this guy wasn't even French, was he?

hes Czech,it was the fastest speed ever recorded in the region at 168.4 MPH,previous was 248km/h (154mph) set by a motorcyclist in 2000. Baros told police that he wanted to let his passenger "hear the sound of a Ferrari engine".

America still has the dubious honour of the holding the world speeding ticket record. Samuel Armstrong was caught doing 205mph (330kph) on a Honda RC51 superbike.

Seriously. He was driving a 6.9 liter Mercedes. It only sounded like a Ferrari.

That's what tunnels are for.

Man if that was in Australia you probably would be going to jail. Actually you would. One guy that went a bit over 200km/h went to jail even though it was on a 3 lane motorway in the middle of the night with no one on it.
Hell if you go like 30km/h over the limit here they treat you like an axe murderer. Plus you are very likely to loose your license for a long time. In some States like Melbourne go about 2km/h over the limit and you get fined.

In short I'm moving to France.

America still has the dubious honour of the holding the world speeding ticket record. Samuel Armstrong was caught doing 205mph (330kph) on a Honda RC51 superbike.

Kuzuhiko Nagata was prosecuted for 130mph on the A1(M) near Peterborough, after he'd slowed down enough for the police to catch him.

Video evidence had him tagged at 210mph. He was driving the Top Secret Toyota Supra and, mystifyingly, was given a £155 fine and a one month ban from driving on British roads. He left for home (Japan) the next week.

Given the choice I think I would rather do 210mph in a steel box than 205mph with only a few millimeters of leather to keep my squishy bits from touching the road

What about the guy in the Koenigsegg who did 242?

Hmm, when I was in Europe, we were going 160 km/h [in a rental Focus hatchback] and being passed. I think in the Netherlands. I told my parents "wow, we can go 100 mph here?", which I deduced from the general knowledge that 100 km/h=62 mph and 160 km/h=around 100 mph. And they didn't even realize it

Cause it tells you how long he was going over the limit (it wouldn't take a 599 as long to get that fast as it would an F430), and because it is a good question.

I don't think you quite got it ;)

Had a quick look over on YouTube and I think this is the video to go with that high speed stunt. You even see the police chasing after him right at the end

I believe I have some of that footage on an Option Auto Special. Nagata is incredibly lucky, or luckily, incredible during his speed runs.

People really are missing the point.

Maybe that helps matters.

I got it first time.

I blame the clocks going backwards. Everyone else will catch up eventually.

271 KM/H? That's all the record is? The French can't even speed correctly.
Yeah, a lousy 165 mph. Don't make me mistake you for a jaded teenager.

Most cops just give up at that point.
