Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz has said that his second Formula 1 team, Scuderia Toro Rosso, has been put up for sale. Mateschitz wants to focus on his team Red Bull Raacing and as the Concorde Agreement won't allow customer cars from 2010 Toro Rosso will have to build the entire car themselves.

Speaking with Motorsport Aktuell Mateschitz revealed: "We have Toro Rosso on the market and are looking for the right person to purchase it. At the start of the 2010 Formula 1 season there will bea rule change that says we can not build both Red Bull Racing's car as well as the car for Scuderia Toro Rosso. That is why I believe we should continue with one team only."

Mateschitz furthermore revealed that it is not planning to sell the team in 2008 already, but before the start of the 2010 Formula One season.

There are already a handful of candidates being speculated as possible buyers. Among them Nicolas Todt, son of Jean Todt and manager of Felipe Massa. But also A1GP chairman Tony Teixeira is being mentioned as a possible buyer.

Yet another small team for sale, yet this time it's not for finanical reasons. Hopefully, though, the buyer will be financially ready. I don't want this to end up like another Midland/Spyker/FIF1... I'm doubting that though.

I guess I'll see you all later then.

Reckon Red Bull would still sponsor the team under a new management?

I don't think it's going to be like that. This isn't a last-minute "we're-not-doing-well-so-we'll-sell-to-the-first-person-to-make-an-offer" thing like Midland/Spyker/Force India/Magma Group. STR recognise that they have to sell, but they're not going to do it straight away: they're going to consider all of the options to make sure the team goes to the right people. Given their performance of late, the team is looking very competitive, so there should be some interest going among actual racers. And anyone with half a brain would keep the current staffing in place (and the drivers if possible), but Toro Rosso was one of the two big surprises at Albert Park (the other being Honda).

I think it'd be funny if they were bought by some firm named Sebastien & Sebastian

Think ProDrive will be in the running as a possible purchaser?

BTW, I'm probably not the only person on here who doesn't like the 'no customer cars' clause in the Concorde Agreement. 👎:yuck:

I like it...I'm on the lines of if you can't make your own cars, you should at least be excluded from the constructors... But maybe this'll be good for the team, maybe get higher funding and such.
