Yeah, this has been quite a case. For some reason, most of the accidents have been happening in Arizona - all deaths (or at least all but a few) were in that state. But there isn't a state in this country that does not have a predominant force of Ford Crown Victorias. The rear-ending thing on highways happens a lot (or, a lot more than people would think), and it's scary to think of the possible consequences.

Of course, though, Ford has a total monopoly of the market as there are no other large rear-drive sedans in America not made by Ford. So, unless the police departments want a Lincoln Continental, there's nothing to do.

Ow!
The Police Interceptor is so far my favorite Ford of all time.

Scrap the Mustang.

They should use chevys. In Katy (which is near houston) the police mainly use crown vics in rural, high populated areas. On the highways however, they use Camaros. I know a few people who have been pulled over by camaro cops...absolutely terrifying. The state troopers also now use trucks.....not sure which tho, never got a good look at them. But its simple, if you need to apprehend someone, just call in an impala. And switch out all the crown vics with camaros....... :-)

Same here in Vegas, the Metro cops use mostly PI's (Crown Vic), some Impalas, Harley bikes and some Expeditions (most with K-9 units); Henderson cops however, they mostly use Chevy Tahoes and some PI's.
But the Highway Patrol is another thing, they use BMW motorbikes, Camaros (some unmarked), Chevy Silverado (mostly for commercial vehicles), some Impalas, but most of them have PI's.
And California Hwy Patrol are mostly PI's.

Cops are (basically) fully dependent on thier Fords. Man, gotta have one (unmarked version).

PI=Police Interceptor

There was a Cop Crown Vic fire in STL last week, they were in pursuit, and a van pulled out infront of them. The cop car flipped and burst into flames. 2 cops in the car, 1 died from the fire, the other one was in critical condition.

Ford sucks.

Ford sucks.

In a study Ford submitted to the NHTSA as to the most flammable cars in high-speed collisions, the Ford Crown Victoria with police package was second to - you guessed it - the third generation RX-7. Maybe that's why we haven't got many on the roads... :P

Whatever - NHTSA's own list verifyed Ford's claim that the RX-7 is even more flammable than the Crown Vic cop car. Pfft.

The Pinto did blow up on impact, as did the Mustang of the same era.

Funny, I've seen many wrecked 3rd gen's in junkyards, HORRIBLE HORRIBLE wrecks, of all kinds, which have no fire damage whatsoever, not to mention I've never heard of them being so highly flamable. I'm with you Mazkid, one more chock against ford. Also, I was pulled over by an un-marked camero once. I was on my way from KY, to Hampton SC, and as soon as I hit Orangeburg, bam, he had me. (59 in a deserted, 4-lane 45 @ 2am). I saw the camero beforehand, but am not used to them actually being cops, and just blew past him. Then I saw him in my rear-view, lights on, and I was still confused. Then a split second later I was like, Ooooh, it's a camero cop car, and puled over, LOL. (got off with a warning :) ) Oh, and for the record, I hate crown vics! Ugly friggin car, and I don't know why anybody would want one. Also, I've ridden in a P1, and he floored it from about 30mph-to catch up to somthing up the road. I was completely unimpressed, and think my 130k mile, 130hp ATX MX-3, has at least what it had. :rolleyes: :rolleyes:
