The Ford Escape is a Crossover SUV produced by Ford. It was originally a joint venture between Ford & Mazda (Sold in Japan as the Mazda Tribute) for the first 2 generations. Ford unveiled the 3rd Gen Escape at the LA Auto Show in 2011 and was based on the Global C platform. Two Ecoboost Inline 4 engines were offered alongside a Naturally Aspirated 2.5 I4. In November 2015 Ford announced the facelifted model which would go on sale in 2016 as a 2017 model. The refresh added an Edge-inspired front fascia while tweaking the rear end that now sports reshaped LED taillights and a newly adopted two-slat, hexagonal grille. The interior is also adjusted slightly in the cabin area and on the steering wheel. The Sync 3 infotainment system is added as a new feature, along with a new smartphone app called Sync Connect, which allows owners to remotely monitor their vehicle, check fuel levels, lock and unlock doors, and start the engine. The 2.5 and 2.0 EcoBoost engine lineup will be joined by a new 1.5-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder option, replacing the 1.6L.
The Escape has been a huge success for Ford, selling over 250,000 units each year for the past 4 years. With numbers like that, it’s easy to understand why Ford decided to tread lightly with this update to its popular compact crossover.
