is the ford escort cosworth an FF or a 4WD? what i know is there is a 4WD version for rally racing. is there also an FF version of this car?

i saw this escort in a website and the info says its fwd. maybe it's a car with the same body style as the escort cosworth. what do you guys think?

The FR RS500 is a Sierra - in fact I believe it's a Sierra Sapphire (the saloon version). The Ford Escort RS Cosworth is 4WD.

nope. Famine you ever driven an Escort RS? my mate use to have one a few years back, great car so fast round the bends it was scary

The Ford Sierra Cosworth came in both RWD & 4WD, and the Ford Escort Cosworth only comes in 4WD. You must have seen an Ford Escort RS Turbo.

There was also an Escort RS2000 in that generation which was an FF - not much more than a hot hatch. Well, warm hatch, truth be told. Barely under 9s for 62mph and with the Escort's "legendary" handling (ie Stonehenge moves better).

I've never driven a Cossie - I've seen one... "go" though. He was blocked in on the M1 alongside me. The car in front of him moved over, the back end dipped and this thing was gone. I mean at the top of this hill you can see the next MILE of motorway (Woolley Edge services, just short of J39, northbound) and he was NOT in sight.

My brother's RB5 is quicker though - helped by a constant bore 3" exhaust pipe and something from Superchips (which he didn't know about). Stock RB5 hits 62mph in 5 flat... Christ knows what his does.

Sweet as guys. I know very little about them, and have seen a few of the RS500's around New Zealand but they are rare as.

Performance Car Mag did a write up on a Sierra Cosworth, and they used to also carry the Ford banner for the Australian Touring Car Series back in the late 80's early 90's where they and the Gibbson MotorSports GTRs battled it out along side the great Aussie V8 Holden's and the M3 from BMW.

They are amazing cars needless to say and honestly wish I could get my greedy little hands on one.

...always lighting a candle. 👍

 I thought "sweet as guys" was normal talk in Texas as well...:P

EDIT: There was a Mk1 Escort for sale in the paper fully restored, for about 60-70,000 AU...about 40,000 US.

the escort RS Cosworth only comes on AWD
the RS500 referred to above is the hatchback sierra RS500 the one they introduced in BTCC I think
The sierra cosworth is sometimes confused with the sapphire cossie - the sapphire one is a saloon and is either RWD or AWD
RWD being the preferred one - If I had a choice anyway !!!
so
Scort Cossie AWD
Sapphire Cossie - sierra saphhire (saloon) RWD or AWD
Sierra Cosworth - is RS500 sierra hatch
they was also an early RS200 - white one with a mahooosive intake on the pillar ? (cud be on the roof) but its huge anyway
And cost wise - in UK, all good condition

Escort cossie - £15,000

Sapphire cossie - £5/6,000

Sierra Cossie - £10,000

Ive seen a mint RS500 at £20k in the past !!
£20k for a D plate !!! Madness !! and I think they only made the genuine RS500 on a D - thats 1987 !!!!
I aint an expert but thats what I reckon the prices would be - about !!!!
If I had my pick of any of the cars above it would have to be the RS500 in the original color of white !!!
theres my 2 pence worth anyway !!!

Oh and if Im wrong then Im wrong - just dont have a pop !!!!

AND

I might be wrong here - sum1 will back me up (or not!!) BUT

I think that the escort cossie and the saphhire - even tho the saphhire is a saloon - both have the same size floorpan ??????

I believe you're right on the last point.

BTW did you MEAN to say RS200 in the earlier post? (check my avatar again...:))

here in sweden you can get one from about 120 000kr and up, divide that by 7 and you have the cost in dollars

please tell me the precise amount. my calculator fell into a pitcher of beer recently and it gives me wrong answers (ex. 1+1=0.2)

i saw an m3 last night, it was also stuck in traffic and i barely managed to see what car it was before it flashed past me and was GONE. i can only imagine how fast the sierra cosworth is since i've never seen one irl (at least not knowingly). they do look like amazing cars though.

one point to anyone thinking of buying them, apparantly they were the most abused cars in the UK, so if your thinking of it make sure you check HPI to make sure it wasn't stolen or previously wrecked...
