Somewhere around that time Ford had an issue with names - yes, the Probe sounded like a sex toy, but they also had the Fiesta and the Escort - both porn mags in the UK. Then they had a cougar, and I suspect the Granada was spelled like that because Grandma was just too obvious...

Truth be told I was a bit surprised when Ford announced the Cortina replacement was to be called "Sierra" and not "Razzle".

Though it did come in a colour called Electric Blue, so not all was lost.
