Unfair! It's A/C, floor mats, and an interior air filter. Duh? And the price jump is actually $1700 from $9500 to $11200. But still, you can't question a vehicle that does 0-60 in twelve seconds and has a model cheaper the base model.

As far as Ford goes... they seem to be in a really confused state right now. Ford can't seem to really break away from their established molds, even with the new models (The Five Hundred looks like a slightly shrunk-down Crown Vic PI to me). Mercury is probably going to die very soon if they don't get out of their "slightly nicer Ford" rut, and Lincoln, in the last couple of years, seems to have copped an elitist snob kind of attitude (remember when they viciously maintained the Blackwood was NOT a truck, depsite it having the same chassis, body style and engine as an F-150?). Instead of the brands having images that complement each other, they clash so much that the company doesn't seem to have any real direction.

I think it has direction. But I'd prefer to give this off-topic statistic: the vehicle featured on television and in film more than any other vehicle is the Ford Crown Victoria.

No one seems to have mentioned the fact that it is/was ford's centennial year. That is why they built the GT and they probably descided to build the new mustang as a more available doorway into Ford's strong history.

Mercury should bring back a RWD Cougar zing.

They couldn't sell the FWD one, why would they be able to sell a RWD one? Particularly in a market which hasn't seen a RWD domestic car turn a profit in years.

Because its what alot of car people want. Id be happy to see even he Messenger concept get produced. I just dont like FF at all even though i drive one.

Just because there's a lot of buzz about it, don't assume people want it. Ask Ford to tell you how the new Thunderbird is doing; a lot of people 'wanted' that back in 2001.

It doesn't get any marketing for the same reason the Mini Cooper gets no marketing: if you wanted it, you'd have already bought it. The Thunderbird isn't going to take any customers away from actual cars, so why advertise it? A Cougar would do even worse, unless it was Audi TT-like, and I know that a dometic car manufacturer is unable to pull that off.

I've always been confused about how people like to rag on the New Beetle for being built off the Golf chassis and then sing the praises about the Audi TT, which is also built off the Golf chassis. I'll admit they did a heck of a job shoehorning a 4WD system onto it, but still...

Hi, Delray.

The difference is this: the Beetle is not as comfortable or useful as the Golf, and it performs worse. The TT is not as comfortable or useful as the Golf, but it performs way better. Looks I'll leave out of the equation.

It even looks like the TT, for a two-minute MS Paint drawing!

If sex is a fat girl with herpes its all for you

Grr.

I've been praising the TT for a year now; one of these days I'm going to buy one and show you all who rules.

The TT is not as comfortable or useful as the Golf, but it performs way better.

Not as comfortable? Have you ever been in a TT? It's comfortable off its mind. All it's got is comfort.

I'm more on the fence now about the Beetle. The manufacturer makes a profit and the owners are happy - what more could you want? The Beetle is like SUVs - the only people who aren't happy with them are the ones that don't own or sell them.

Surely you could say that about most cars that there's divided opinion about. People wouldn't buy them if they didn't like them...

I hope!

I can name about thirty new cars that an owner would not be content owning, and about thirty more than an owner wouldn't be happy with if they knew what they were missing with the competiton.

With the Beetle, the owners are truly happy off their minds. It's scary.

Thats just your opinion on how you think some car owners may be. Jeeez.

At work, I have the customer satisfaction ratings by model.

But any idiot could pick some of them out - I mean, have you seen the kind of crap people buy? Chevrolet S-10/GMC Sonoma, Chevrolet Blazer, Isuzu Ascender, Chevrolet Astro/GMC Safari, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Saturn L300,... basically, vehicles at the bottom of their segment are going to have worse satisfaction ratings.
