Former GT player, new to Forza, need some answers, thanks!

Hi,

Im absolutly new to everything related to the Xbox and the Forza series. Also, english is not my native language so forgive me for any mistakes there.

I come from many years playing the GT series, and i just got my hands on an Xbox and a copy of the game + a Fanatec CSR wheel set, all currently on their way to my anxious hands... but despite being quite experienced on the sim racing world, i have a few starter questions and would like you guys to kindly answer, please:

1 - Cars packs. I noticed there are many (wonderful) car packs out there and ALSO a lot of individual cars to buy/download. Are these included in the packs, or sold individually? (Question answered)

2 - Car trade. Is there any price limit for trades? (The geniuses in GT5 limited to 1,000,000, so the top end race cars cant be traded) (Question answered)

3 - Are there any DLC track pack available? Or information about upcoming tracks? (Question answered)

4 - What is the best and most affordable way to get ALL the DLC released until this day? 1 Season pass? (Question answered)

5 - The standard 4GB is room enough for all DLC? (sorry, gotta ask...) (Question answered)

6 - I read some guys saying theyd have to clear some of their cars out of their garages in order to get the new ones (???) If that makes sense, what does it mean? (Question answered)

7 - After being informed that 4GB is not enough space, what do you guys have to say about third-party, OEM HDDs? Are there any known problems or brands you wouldnt recommend? (Question answered)

Thanks a lot and, im happy to join the comunity.

Cheers.

1. Individual cars are those taken out of the packs.

2. No $ limit on trades. You just can't gift cars you've received from T10.

3. No DLC track packs and no info hinting there will be any.

Send me a friend request.

1. Most cars can be purchased individually, but typically, one a month is locked to that particular month's car pack. The Hennessey Venom GT, for example, is only available if you buy the complete set. However, each pack has one free car - this is to ensure you have the car files on your system for when racing online (or else you'll see the "placeholder car").

2. There's no trade limit at all - you can gift cars to friends (provided it doesn't have a Storefront-purchased tune or livery/sticker on it), and the Storefront itself is where you'll find many of the in-game "trading", so to speak. There's an Auction House where any Gold user can put their own cars up for sale in a typical bidding style.

3. It's looking unlikely we'll see any track packs...

Welcome to the 'Planet!

One suggestion I have is that if you plan on buying a lot of cars from the car packs or if you see a lot of cars you want from the packs, then get the season pass.

That my friend would be my very next question, actually.

Appreciate your help guys, please be patient, im a quick learner, just never had any contact with the Xbox system before and id hate to miss something and/or waste more than i need...

Thanks!!!

4 - If you gonna get them all then yes the season pass would be your best bet but it is only for the first 6 DLC packs (plus the free muscle car pack for getting the season pass. I believe this offer is still on but don't hold me to that lol) The 7th pack (Top Gear pack) you would have to buy separately as it isnt covered by the season pass.

5 - I couldn’t give you an answer on that sorry, my guess would be no.

6 - The forza garage lets you have 550 (i think) cars and with the new Porsche pack coming out at the end of this month it takes the total amount of cars on forza 4 to over 600. So if they collect cars then they will have to sell some of them to be able to have some Porsches in ze garages.

Don't worry, were here to help lol

4GB will not be enough since you will need to use up the 4GB to install disk 2. You can use a USB stick up to 16GB to install DLC. So 4GB + USB will be more than enough. However I highly recommend finding a cheap 20GB 360 HDD and extracting the drive (They are 15 bucks or something) or if you are more adventurous for around $50 you can buy and image a 250GB HDD (This process isn't 'legal' under Microsoft's terms; I will leave you to research how to do it and any possible repercussions). This will allow you to install Disk 1 which brings many benefits for gaming experience and console longevity.

Also a note on the DLC car packs. You use REAL money to purchase the car packs, and once you do you can drive them stock but you have to purchase them with Forza money (credits) before you can paint, tune them

Yeah i actually wasnt expecting that. Ill look around for a drive then, thanks for the info!

Hello, I saw this topic and decide to read it.

I'm also GT player, not former though. Both of these games has pluses and minuses and I think both developer companies should bonk their heads together and great ultimate Forza Turismo game.

I already have question about DLC packages. I bought Season Pass and got just muscle cars pack for free. Should I get something else unlocked with it too?

Since I'm not going to buy another wheel just because this game, for game bad, does it matter using simulator mode or bit easier one? (Yup, new with xbox controller too)

Simulation mode is for wheels, I would stick it on normal. You are missing out no buying a wheel, its a good time to buy from Fanatec as they have some great deals on at the maoment.

Let's see. I have on table Logitech Driving Force Pro which works well with PC laptop, PS2 and PS3 and with many games. Then there's recently purchased joystick (Side note: it was awesome with Gran Turimso 5, driving car like motor boat :D) for Bird of Steel and this laptop I write things up.

I have no room or will to buy new wheel now. This wheel has perform well since 2004 and it has no flaws or signs to getting broken any soon. Thanks to Micro$oft policy on decoded controllers I have to play maybe currently worlds best console car game with...game pad.

You know what, youre right. I still play GT online and will probably get a lot more out of it when my wheel arrives... So im changing the title :P

By the way, consider trading or selling your current wheel and check out Fanatec's CSR bundles... theyre PS3, Xbox and PC compatible 👍

New question, regarding additional storage:

7 - What do you guys have to say about third-party, OEM HDDs? Are there any known problems or brands you wouldnt recommend?

7. You can't just buy any 2.5" HDD and put it in the 360, sorry. You have to get one made specifically for the 360, slim or fat. Or you can get a WD scorpio, follow a long tutorial, create partitions, flash the right files. Yada yada. Easiest and cheapest would be to buy a refurb 20gb for $20 or 120gb for $50 from gamestop, though I doubt they have them in Brazil.

Sure i meant the Xbox drive, for the slim model. We got them in Brazil, i found a bunch of 250 and 320 gig online, at around 100usd, and also smaller ones but the price was not too far from the bigger ones. But there seems to be "original" drives and "similar" too. I was talking about the second type.

Here, check this one out:

Thanks for the help!

Glad i read this . I play gt5 with trustmaster T500rs wheel plus shifter, bought xbox 360 just for this game, comes tomorrow. What would be the best wheel to buy for forza 4?

I'm also a GT5 player, getting a 4Gb 360 as a sort of freebie with my new phone contract in a couple of weeks, for now only to play Forza 4 (whilst i'm a hardcore GT fan, I liked Forza 1 a lot on my old xbox)

This thread answers a lot of my questions very nicely, I just have one more though, or more of a clarification:

My plan is to only play Forza 4 for now, then buy a larger drive when I can afford to for the DLC etc. (and inevitably, other games). So on a box-fresh 4Gb console, presumably Forza is playable, but can I still only install 1 disc? If someone could explain what the discs are and if I still can't install the maximum for a smoother, quicker experience, that would be awesome :)

I'm unsure as I don't have experience, but I believe I've read you can use a 16GB USB flash drive to extend the 4GB's available space for the short-term. Depending on how many replays, photos, liveries, and DLC you plan on purchasing/using, that should be enough, including the Disc 2 install :)

Thanks, I did see something like that earlier in the thread, just wasn't sure as with the PS3 you can only usefully store certain data on an external drive, not so much installs etc. I guess that's my ignorance of how the xbox works though!

As I can get a 16GB flash drive for about £6.00 that's definitely a nice option, I will check back here if I have any issues :)

16GB USB Storage should be enough to install everything.
However, without an internal HDD you miss replays, big shots and movies.

I'm new to this game as well as X-box in general, coming from GT.

I've downloaded the free car packs and redeemed a code for a track pack. However, how do I get them installed into the game? Am I just blind? I've looked all over the place and cant seem to find them in the game or a place to install them.

Can anyone help?

it ain't like gt5 where you have to install them on the game mate ,they install straight away

Thanks for the response. I finally saw that. I had been looking for the new Viper in the Dodge dealer and when I didnt see it assumed they had to be installed. I finally found them later.

Also, in GT5, you automatically get them in your garage, not just the ability to buy them. So between not finding Viper in Dodge and them not in my garage, I thought they needed install.

Thanks for replying though.
