Leclerc called for the softs early on as well, but was told to finish his lap, and that has now cost him Q3

Silly isn't it? It was clear from Albon's 1st lap that soft was the way to go. His S3 time was much faster than anyone else. Looks like that's the top 10 through now.

I think the call was made before that, but still if your driver says it's slicks, and you know you have only a short time frame to do it, you shouldn't be waiting it out.

They could at least already see from Albon at that point that it wasn't that bad

Wow, good job, Albon. 😮

I was glad Sainz got his car fixed in time for Qualifying, but it seemed like every time they showed his car on TV, he was in someone's way. 😤

Third time in a row that Perez is missing Q3.
The guy is a mini Coulthard. At the beginning he is calling himself a championship contender, and when the real circuits emerge he is out of the title fight…

Only McLaren puts two cars in Q3

And Sainz has been hit with a 3 place grid drop for impeding. There are also several investigations for impeding that don't seem to be resolved yet.

edit:

Yuki, Stroll and Hulkenberg also get 3 place grid drops for the next race they participate in (I'm assuming this means this race)
Hulkenberg also gets 1 penalty point

A whole string of penalties....I'm surprised Lewis didn't get one too considering he couldn't see Lance coming behind him.
Especially since he'd already noted that he was having an issue with the mirror minutes beforehand and that he would have to come in (I don't think he actually returned to the pits).

Quali was the first time I've actually tuned in this year, and seeing as the expectations are for a dry race I'm going to assume this will be another Sunday stroll in the park for Max.

I have to say, I'm amazed that Carlos only got a 3 place drop for effectively knocking someone out of Q1 via obstruction, nevermind that he was essentially a slow-moving roadblock on more than one occasion before the chicane... they really need to put a stop to that nonsense before something awful happens.

Not digging this. Ricciardo looks like he'd rather be racing, and Arnett is just... no.

edit: Boo, had to go back to Croft and Brundle.

Fantastic from Hamilton. He's really enjoying the new Mercedes. I wonder how much damage Sainz took going over that bump...
