He means they hold it as insurance so you don't run off with their FGT... Somewhat flawed logic as it would be way cheaper and easier to re-buy or trade for whatever car you give them, but whatever. Then when you're done with their FGT you get your car back.

yes i know this but from the threads ive seen they want to keep your car.. for instance chucky or whatever his nae was.. he wanted something like an enzo and wanted to keep it !! no chance

People wont lend out FGT's (car worth many Enzos) with the chance it gets stolen for nothing.

I have one!! But I will never send a gift again... I have had two cars deleted from 'upload failure'. Not sure if it was fixed from the update, but I won't risk it... def not with a $5,000,000 car.

If you have an upload failure IMMEDIATELY quit the game via XMB. Don't let it autosave, otherwise it'll be lost. Once you start up the game again, it'll be there again.
