Just wanted to relay a little story from a race last night that might add to this debate. I will start by saying I haven't completed many laps on the Ring in GT5, the vast majority of my laps around the Ring have been done in FM, and we are talking hundreds of laps so I know the FM version like the back of my hand.
Last night I was racing with my new weekly GT league. I've been racing with them for the past three months. I'm one of the better racers and usually finish in the top three. Last night was the first race we had done on the Ring. The entry requirements were 601 BHP, 1300kg cars from Germany. The vast majority of us went for the R8. I did no tuning whatsoever as frankly, I'm crap at it. It was a three lap race and I managed to win and was a whole minute quicker than the second place guy who manages to beat me elsewhere as much as I beat him.
If the Ring is so wrong that it's almost like another track in FM how was I able to be so dominant on the Ring in GT? I hadn't even done a practice lap in the car. The reason is simple. I know it so well from FM and the differences are not that great that I suddenly can't drive around it very quickly when I race the GT version. So, for me, the incorrect nature of the Ring in FM does not in anyway spoil it either in FM or when I race the track in other games. I am not in anyway disputing the fact that it is wrong in FM, it is, we all accept this but I can't accept this notion that it's like a different track as a result of being wrong.
