Forza 5 to GT 6 HELP!

Hi Guys,

I'm a top 10 driver on Forza looking to make the transition over to GT, mainly for the academy.

A few questions;

- Wheel or Controller

I use controller for Forza and was wondering if times are actually faster with a wheel, or is it just a preference? If wheel is faster, which ones?

- Driving Aids

For Forza I use no ABS, and TCS on, but with GT its a sliding scale for the assists. Personal preference, or do these affect your time?

- Setups and miscellaneous

Anything else which needs mentioning to do with setups, game settings or driving style etc?

Anyone else made this transition? GT seems much more competitive than Forza which is good. Just bought PS3 & GT 6 in anticipation for GTA 2015 :)

Thanks for any replies,

MasterYoda!

Well, i am guesing you have played GT6 at least enough times to realize that this game feels completely different from forza, correct? Also, the simple fact that you were a top 10 driver in forza who used a controller is extremely odd. to my knowledge, controller users struggle to reach the top 100 in the GT6 seasonal events, and usually the top teir wheel users are around 3 seconds faster than the fastest DS3 users. Then yo have GTAcademy. I assume you created this thread here because the idea appeals to you? Good. But to my knowledge, there has never been a controller user accepted into GTA before, and i could only assume that if you were fast enough to be accepted on a controller, you would have a tough time getting used to driving a real car. So in the end, you over all best bet is to use a wheel. The more popular wheels out there are things like the Driving Force GT, but there are probably better ones out there, but be warned, they probably come with one hell of a price tag. As far as Driving aids go? Pretty much the only widely accepted driving aid is ABS. Most of the high end players use nothing but ABS on 1, as if you are good enough, most of the aids just slow you down. As for set ups, its all up to personal preference and comfort. And budget. I would say that GT6 is a more competitive environment, mostly because of its tailoring towards realism. The game is not an ultra realistic simulator, but it is obviously realistic enough to rear a bunch of truly talented drivers. And also, bear in mind that if you have never used a wheel, its going to take you a while to get used to. You will eventually be faster on a wheel, but be warned, it could be frustrating at first. Hope i helped! :)

I did the transition last october :) I was too a massive player of forza and trust me there is a HUUUGE difference between forza and gran turismo , there both realistic but I would say that gran turismo gamers are moore hardcore than forza .I'll advice you to buy a wheel because it is more precise... the best one is the logitech g27 and you have to buy it as fast as possible because even if you are fast in forza it doesn't mean that you are going to beat some people that play gt since the first one ;) there is max 4 or 5 months left to the competition lol . Good luck :)

The basic principle is the same though - brake, turn, accellerate. There are certain differences that come down to how games interpret inputs, but physics wise one game won't suddenly pull a trick that another wouldn't.

Hi Chameleon, Thanks for the reply, some useful info in there. Forza is very controller friendly, if not better than a wheel, but it seems, from just watching a few hotlap replays, the wheel is a much better input for GT. So I'll be getting myself one of those.

Going out to buy GT6 now, Bought the PS3 yesterday! Exciting :D

How about training btw?? How does one go about becoming a force for GTA.

All the best & thanks for the replies

ABS at 1 and TC OFF or 0 is 90% of the time the fastest combo.

You will need a wheel, anything like a Logitech Driving Force GT or a Logitech G27 will work but you will want to look into a Thrustmaster wheel because at the finals thats what they will be using.

As for training, stamina is more important than brute strength. Also seat time in a real car on a track or try an autocross or karts.

I too am just starting off in GT6. Building my chassis this week and getting a thrustmaster t500. What's your PSN ID? See you at the track!

PSN ID is just your PSN username , you have to create one to order to race online( or do anything online using the PS3).

Yes I know...I had Xbox live. I have to get my PS3 before I can get online :)

I was asking what his ID is so I could look him up and race

What country you from? Because if you are from AUS I can help out with some people to see if your up to pace

I'm in the US. I'm on mobile most of the time and it doesn't list your location in the mobile version of the forum:tdown:
Oh well don't know what it's like in the US for competitivness, if you were in AUS we have a group that races together and about 10 of us went to the Nats for GT Academy this year

The competition in the US...from what I have seen so far...is pretty fierce. .100 separates 1st from like 1000th lol. Sorry OP for the thread jack lol

Wow I was looking on the GTA 2014 leader-boards and it didn't seem that competitive! In round 1 there was 2.9 seconds separating the top 250 I think!

I'm downloading the updates for GT6 now! It's taking absolutely forever!! I only have 2Mb/s internet haha

Those last 2.0 seconds or so to get to the top of the leaderboards are the hardest to get man. You have to be extremely precise to get them. One mistake on a corner or one inch brake to late and you will lose at least .5 of a second to the top guys.

Awesome!! Hope to see you at the top on GT, I'm sure you'll get up to speed in no time. Although I'm nowhere near the top guys in Gt... lol Maybe some day with more practice

Ok maybe I was exaggerating a bit lol but it's deff competitive! Cool mine will be MX450248 once I get my PS3 and get online

I know, I am one of the top Forza guys. Racing is still racing, no matter what console/game, the basics still apply.

I was once in your shoes coming from forza just to compete in GT Academy. Best advice i can give is practice, practice, practice oh did i say practice. GT is vastly different in terms of physics, but like you said its all driving in the long run, but going fast in GT takes a vastly different approach as to how (deep into turns, induce oversteer, and power out). I made it to the national finalist round of 32 in SanDiego in 2012 with no prior GT experience (only forza). Long story short, buy your self a wheel and don't forget to practice. Its all about practice.

Went from Forza to iRacing to GT Academy. They all feel different and vary in difficulty, but in the end if you're fast at one, you should be fast at the others with practice. Get a wheel (my preference was G27) and likely only use ABS. Things in Forza must have changed vastly, because it was never fast to run TCS (Forza 1/2/3), surprised to hear that.

EDIT: ...or maybe TCS was always used and I just didn't ever use it. Can't remember any more.

I'm wondering whether the 2015 GT Academy will be embedded into GT6 on the PS3 (like 2014 was), or if they will create a separate game (like they did for numerous earlier GT Academy competitions such as 2012/2013) and maybe even run it on PS4 as well as (or instead of) PS3.

Anyone have concrete information on that yet?

Gonna have a time trial/online session today. I'm having a bash at the seasonal events firstly to see how competitive it all is.

Trying the Lancia Stratos time trial overtake thingy now, this thing is hard to get right with a stick.

I miss Forza's online community/gameplay, but GT6 is a much better racer in comparison.

548th so far lol I'm not sure how that compares to forza, how many people play the seasonal events, how many on the leaderboards?
It depends on the event but I posted a really slow first lap time on the Mazda vision gran turismo and I was ranked more or less 35,000

MasterYoda, I just wanted to reiterate how golden this advice is. To make it to the top, the bolded part is pretty much the only way to do it. GT requires a very specific driving style to be alien fast and without it, you'll be a second or more off the pace and that won't cut it to get into GTAcademy. I suggest watching top TT replays as you'll find everyone with pretty much the same driving style, same lines etc. Don't underestimate the power of the force in those bolded words above. :sly:

PS: Luke says hello and wants you to stop ribbing him about kissing his sister:lol:

In my (humble ) opinion, I think you need to be finishing in the top 20 on every seasonal TT you enter.

The way GTA has gone the past couple of years, the last qualifying times are 1 sec behind the world #1 time, and the laps are around the 2 min mark. So I'm personally aiming to be within half a second per 1 minute of the #1 time on TT's.

Put it this way. I've finished in the top 50 in the last 5 or 6 TT's, and I feel like I've got a long way to go to be fast enough to qualify.:boggled:

PRACTICE!

50,000+

I'd say you need to be able to regularly be able finish around 10-15 for a shot at UK national finals.
