Forza Horizon 4: Paints and Designs

I have to say, after the last few days of getting all my stuff ported across and filling my garage back up with other people's designs, the entire "creative hub" interface is a complete and utter mess.

- The thumbnails are way too small with no enlarged preview like in FM7
- The creator's avatar is bigger than the thumbnails for their designs
- The thumbnails also all seem to have an extra layer of gloss applied to them, making it difficult to tell between normal paint, glossy metallic paint, or even just matte paint
- You cannot favourite a design when you're looking through designs in the process of buying a car, you can only do that after you've purchased the car
- Designs from followed creators are no longer recommended to you, neither do "new" designs
- The follow system just seems completely bugged
- You follow a creator
- Interface tells you they're now followed
- You go into their creative hub
- Interface tells you they have 0 followers
- Go back out, interface tells you they're not followed
- Check your list of followed creators, they're not there
- Go back to "Find a design"
- "Creator followed"
- ????
- The favourite system too, sometimes the button prompt just randomly goes away in the middle of scrolling through designs
- There's no consistency to how the designs are ordered and there's no way to sort it yourself
- Designs on the paint shop are ordered, presumably, by popularity
- Designs that you favourite are ordered from oldest to newest
- Designs that you've made or downloaded are ordered from newest to oldests
- Designs when you browse someone's creative hub is ordered ?????
- The UI no longer tells you the exact car model when you look at a design, so it's sometimes impossible to tell between normal cars and Forza Editions, or very similar looking cars like the 991 GT3 RSes (the tiny thumbnails don't help)
- I also can't seem to find the upload date or the number of shapes used when browsing for designs, making it rather difficult to tell between duplicate shares with minor corrections with each iteration
- What exactly is the point of having to manually scroll through and select the make and model of the car when you're uploading a design with the default being "Any Car" and no option for "Current Car" when that information isn't displayed anywhere? But funnily enough, there's an option for "Current Car" when you're searching for designs...

I like the inclusion of the Creative Hub, but agree that it needs some optimisation.

Agreed, something slightly larger would be good, perhaps also allow a player to preview the design on a car before downloading it (like when you buy a car) so that you can check how it looks from multiple angles.

- The creator's avatar is bigger than the thumbnails for their designs

I don't mind this but maybe a 2x2 grid would be more suitable for Designs than a 3x3.

- The thumbnails also all seem to have an extra layer of gloss applied to them, making it difficult to tell between normal paint, glossy metallic paint, or even just matte paint

Haven't searched for enough designs to see this yet but I'll take your word for it. At least with my Creative Hub I share photos of each car too so that you can get a bigger picture before downloading.

- You cannot favourite a design when you're looking through designs in the process of buying a car, you can only do that after you've purchased the car

I don't see the need for design favouriting personally; if I like a design it's going on the car.

- Designs from followed creators are no longer recommended to you, neither do "new" designs

This is not good, and means that unless you got in early on a new car your designs won't get seen. Those that put up designs during the review period will have an advantage over those who bought the game on Day 1.

- The follow system just seems completely bugged
- You follow a creator
- Interface tells you they're now followed
- You go into their creative hub

I think the Followed Creators list only updates when you start a new session.

- The favourite system too, sometimes the button prompt just randomly goes away in the middle of scrolling through designs

Haven't come across this myself.

- There's no consistency to how the designs are ordered and there's no way to sort it yourself

- Designs that you've made or downloaded are ordered from newest to oldests

Your own designs are ordered by popularity on your Creative Hub; personally I prefer chronological order.

Designs in your file list are chronological, which is important.

- The UI no longer tells you the exact car model when you look at a design, so it's sometimes impossible to tell between normal cars and Forza Editions, or very similar looking cars like the 991 GT3 RSes (the tiny thumbnails don't help)

While the ability to search for designs from multiple cars is great (and something that should be added to Forza Motorsport 7), not knowing what car a design is for is problematic, especially when Forza Editions are involved. Oddly enough, you can find car info in your saved file list, so there's some inconsistency here.

- I also can't seem to find the upload date or the number of shapes used when browsing for designs, making it rather difficult to tell between duplicate shares with minor corrections with each iteration

I also noticed that additional options (such as for reporting offensive Vinyl Groups) aren't available when I look for Vinyl Groups through the Creative Hub.

- What exactly is the point of having to manually scroll through and select the make and model of the car when you're uploading a design with the default being "Any Car" and no option for "Current Car" when that information isn't displayed anywhere? But funnily enough, there's an option for "Current Car" when you're searching for designs...

This is probably an oversight, as "Current Car, Current Car" are default options when you take a photo and share it.

I like the inclusion of the Creative Hub, but agree that it needs some optimisation.

The creative hub/storefront is amazing, but it really, really needs to be ordered chronologically.

Agreed, something slightly larger would be good, perhaps also allow a player to preview the design on a car before downloading it (like when you buy a car) so that you can check how it looks from multiple angles.

A live preview would be great. I've lost count of the number of times where I've downloaded a nice paint only to find the entire other side of the car was just blank...

I don't mind this but maybe a 2x2 grid would be more suitable for Designs than a 3x3.

I like the grid system, but the problem is that space that could have been used for a bigger preview image is instead taken up by a useless avatar.

I don't see the need for design favouriting personally; if I like a design it's going on the car.

I find it most useful when searching for multiple designs. Say I wanted a Martini livery on a Lancia. There's a billion replicas on the storefront, so I'll favourite the designs that stand out and keep scrolling. This way, I get to mark out the ones I want to download and try on without having to break my place in the search. It's a huge time saver.

I imported more of my liveries from FM7. I'll actually make new ones once I play through more of the game. I want to focus on collecting cars and houses first.

My EPSON VW Golf Rally livery. You can probably see that it's based on another livery.

Update on my VW Golf Mk.IV liveries from FM7, I finally imported these. Just search in the description "Gran Turismo 2" when looking up liveries for the R32. Yup, 2 of the racing modification Golfs from GT2 are back.

I'm working on some paint ideas for Forza Edition cars to help them stand out more. I'm taking inspiration from the Team Forza suits from FM7. I'll get some shots later.

Regarding the extra shiny thumbnails that don't match the actual paint, here's some screenshots.

This is what Neonpig777's ratrod (pretty much everyone knows his designs by now) looks like when you go to download it:

This is what it looks like in the game itself:

It also happens that he has another glossy design for the car. Here's what the 2 thumbnails look like side by side:

The materials look nearly identical even though one paint is matte and the other glossy.

Hi! That replica much better and detailed than other. Ford Escort RS Cosworth 1992. Team Michelin Pilot.

YES! I had to use the Repsol livery until I found one like this. Awesome

W.I.P. livery for my BMW M6 Forza Edition. I want to make simple livery for this. I'm just trying to think of what else I can add here aside from a few sponsors.

Hi,

I'm a new player of Forza series and i would like to share with you a paint that i have made on the Koenigsegg Agera RS.

So I take inspiration from some real photo of the cars to make this.

I managed to keep the black carbon fiber finition and the skin is available in many colors that I can broad if needed.

I don't know how to insert my image like you so I join them.

The paints are available online if you likes them, use my GamerTag: "DrumKass" to find them.

Have a nice day guys.

Nice. :)

I'm afraid I don't know how to follow creators and I'm not sure it works to prioritise paint designs in the search page anyway but what is your gamertag please @JPinto?

I finally got around to remaking my IMSA Retro livery for the 2018 Mustang GT. Once again, it's based on the one on the Ford Mustang IMSA GT Turbo.

I made a showcase video of my liveries. Well, most of my designs anyway.

Having made one of these myself recently (link below) I know this is not easy to do, so well done on that. I liked the familiar start screen sound too ;)

One bit of feedback on my end for future videos; I think the video overall is too long. You should aim for 3 minutes or less as I’ve found that people will drop off after that. In my video I spend exactly 4 seconds on each car, and get through 25 of them in 2 minutes. If you record footage from the right angles (I used Replay/Rewind) you can show off a car well in that amount of time.

I suspect my next video will allow me to spend more time on each car as I’ll probably feature 10 or so, but I’ll keep it under 2 minutes.

Thanks! I've made my channel centered around Gran Turismo videos for years, so that intro just seemed to make sense to me. :D

Thanks for the feedback, I'll make note of that whenever I do one of these videos again or something. I guess I'm just use to being able to rotate the cars when showing them, it worked for when I posted videos showing every racing modification for GT1 & 2. Though that was probably because it didn't take long for the cars to rotate.

I've never really tried to make a good livery before, but I've always wanted to. I have a couple of dumb questions. When pulling a logo off the internet, does it need to be transparent? Are the any good templates for Nascar-like Contingency Sponsors, since there's very few Manufacturer logos in game?

Edit: Never mind, I don't think this will work with my ancient Windows 7 laptop.

You can paint even if you don't have windows 10 pc or capture boards.

Method for painting Part 1:
- Please prepare transparent vinyl and plastic.
- Pile them on what you want to paint and fasten them with tape. (Never fix it strongly, this must be peeled off later)
- You trace the logo you want to paint with a pen or marker. Please trace accurately.
- After finishing the trace, peel vinyl (or plastic sheet). And paste it on the TV.
- With reference to the vinyl pasted on the screen, you will trace the logo in the game.
- Examine the correct color data in the procedure of step 4 of @PJTierney 's second post.

Method for painting Part 2:
Warning: This method risks destroying your printer!

- Please purchase the tracing paper (as thin as possible and rough).
- Place the tracing paper in the printer and print the logo you want to paint.
Warning: Manufacturers do not recommend using tracing paper. The tracing paper has a risk of getting stuck in the printer! And if you destroy the printer, it may become out of warranty of the manufacturer!
- Paste the tracing paper on the TV.
- With reference to the tracing paper pasted on the screen, you will trace the logo in the game.
- Examine the correct color data in the procedure of step 4 of @PJTierney 's second post.

These are the methods I used to do in the past. It is more difficult and time-consuming, but it's never impossible.
Good luck!

Recreated an old plastic car I have. Perfect for dirt racing and demolition derbies :)

Search: Posruka 4x4 or follow me on the design page.

I have others laying around, so I'll get those in too. I just have to find the right cars to match them.
