R.I.P. Specialty Dealer 10/10/17-3/27/18

Born with such promise, the Specialty Dealer went on life support on December 19th, only 71 days after it was born. Although there were sporadic signs of life, its condition became terminal on March 6. Today, it passed away peacefully, if tragically, so much potential never realized.

In lieu of flowers please consider playing any other car game that actually works.

No specialty dealer huh?

Guess staying on past the refresh time of midnight to pay tribute to GT6 was more than worth it after all..

Off topic, but still forza related, my Mustang FE ( not the ForzaRC one) went for 6 million. :D

I'm guessing even *you* have your limits, Populuxe.

They just released cars in the Specialty Dealer, all cars from the 60's; The Impala, Challenger Daytona, and the Ferrari 250 GT LM. All Repeats. It happened about 25- 30 min ago

I find it odd how they keep repeating the Specialty Dealer to infinity, but there hasn't yet been a prize car repeated in Rivals and Leagues. Why treat the locked cars so unevenly? At this point I'd gladly pet a hungry shark on the nose just to collect some of the community event prize cars I have missed.

Only reason I can think is that because the Rivals and League events last for a much longer time, that it'll be harder to eventually get around to a repeat. The prizes that required actual effort, now and in the past, always seem to be more individual than what we see in the specialty dealer. If they constantly throw repeats at these month long events, I'm sure the backlash would be much harsher compared to what we see about the Specialty dealer.

I see your point. The thing that gets to me is how we don't know whether the gift cars are true unicorns or regular locked cars that are only subject to slower repeat cycles. Perhaps we'll know a year from now.

I think the only way would be to go to the rental car section. if it's not part of the count there than it should be a true unicorn.

So you're saying that cars like the Ferrari 612 or BMW Z8 are likely to offered again, whereas the recent MG isn't? That would makes sense considering how the latter is a DLC car, but the locked vanilla cars are in my opinion surrounded by too much uncertainty.

No, what I'm saying is that if you want to find out if a car is truely part of the locked away disc content, or extra content aside from that, you should be able to tell by going to the rental area.

Let us all hope that, like Timmy did after his hamster died of starvation after he forgot to feed it for three weeks straight, that T10 will realize that some things require the assumption of a responsible role after the Specialty Dealer fiasco.

May as well remove the feature completely at this point, no?

Ok, perhaps unicorn was the wrong word to use considering how most of the locked cars can be rented. I was referring to the locked cars that have only been gifted so far. My point is that it's not really clear whether these are "unicorns" as collectibles.

Most likely. The term Unicorn means cars that are not part of the original count of the game, but cars that were earned from special occasions/community events. The cars that are locked, but part of the actual vanilla car list should not be called unicorns.

We need another word for those in case they do end up being exclusive one time only prizes. I'd say we call them trolleys - because they are trolling people and have four wheels.

They just keep missing a great opportunity to make the game feel more alive and dynamic. Imagine if the only one car was a specialty repeat, another a former gift car from one of the earliest Rivals or Leagues rewards, and the last could have been an entirely new unlock chosen by Turn 10 or voted in by the community. Voila, more happy customers but they just don't... Arrgh

How many cars are still locked though? If I remember, @-Fred- had said that there really wasn't that many still locked. If that's the case, there really was never going to be enough to be able to have a new cycle for that long, hence the repeats. The specialty dealer is cycling cars that are in the base game, where as these Rivals and League rewards are actually completely new outside the original roster, from what I can tell, so it's not really something to mix in the first place.

It's true that many locked cars aren't left, but it would just be more interesting if Turn 10 spiced up the actual rotation as opposed to recycling previous instances nearly every week. Many of the Rivals and League rewards cars are part of the base game. Audi TT RS, BMW Z8, Ferrari 599 GTO, Ferrari 612, Ford Escort RS1800, Jaguar XK 120, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, W Motors Lykan, etc. Those have only been offered once as gift cars. I can only remember the MG not being part of the base game, but maybe there are more when counting the Forza Editions, which I don't pay attention to.

Ah I was under the impression that the Rivals were completely outside the original list. Hopefully, after all the locked cars are given out, they'll start putting those reward vehicles into the Specialty dealer at least.

At first, I liked the idea of the Specialty Dealer. Serial numbered cars brought incentive to log in and try and get a low numbered livery. But with the repeats it ruins that whole idea. I have several vehicles that are the same, and serial numbered under 1000, just with different 'born on' dates. Same color, same look. Plain Jane. It completely undermines the whole "Specialty" part of the dealer. Now as we hit the 3rd, 4th and 5th go-arounds for these cars and trucks, all of us (those who bought the game at release), feel cheated and undervalued. Certain areas of the game have garnered more attention than other areas. Better car content in the Forzathons, (which are quite easy, but spread out thinly on a monthly basis), and Rivals Challenges, (again some events last too long, others pay out nothing, and often when gifted cars are received, nobody knows what is was for). I would like to see things spread out a bit more evenly. Specialty Dealer could have cars with unique designs, or paint schemes, and when the cars are recycled, again have different designs or custom parts installed. In principle, I really like what Forza 7 is trying to do, but in terms of execution, it's a poor showing.
