the Polo Gti is a quite rare car here in Europe, I only saw a couple driving around. Probably is due to the fact that the cooper s has the same power and is considered cooler than the little Gti.

Polo's still going well.

Though needs some new tyres and a wash.. Oh and its due for its 2nd Service...

Damn being poor :grumpy:

Mate keep em serviced, ends up being much cheaper that way. Just got the missus to trade her 03 Golf in for a Mazda 3, as the Golf was just getting to bloody expensive to maintain... just wish I'd convinced her to get into a manual though :(.

In other news I took it for a lovely burn through a local mountain range yesterday with a mate who has a 180sx (with Silvia front end). 206kw at the wheels, Half cage + semi slicks + springs, setup for track days.

Was great fun and also good experience swapping cars as well, was very surprised at the Polo's ability to Hang with my mates car on the downhill, our corner speeds were extremely similar. Uphill however... no chance to hang with a 200kw SR20DET

Just happened to pop in this thread, and I don't mean to burst your bubble, or your mate's, but S13s are strangely completely horrible at being fast track cars, and I have yet to figure out why. IIRC it's something with the way the rear suspension behaves under load or something, but they are really slow for some reason. I mean you can stick massive tires under then and make then corner fast, but then you notice they're being trailed by a stock Miata on tires half the size. That shouldn't happen with a car that weighs only 500lb or so more.

But it does look nice, as does your car. 👍

No way any stock MX5 will hang with his car.

I know he has done extensive work with the suspension, toe and camber settings, so maybe he has fixed that issue you were talking about?
Not necessarily a stock Miata, but cars like Miatas and E30s, and other various "cheap" track cars usually can hang with a 240 that has had extensive work with a lot less work. I first noticed this when I went to a track event and saw a 240sx with flares, a front splitter, and a massive wing on the back, with a somewhat built motor and massive sticky tires lapping the track, hard, you could tell he was slightly sliding through the corners, and there was a Spec Miata right on it's tail, lap after lap. Spec Miatas are essentially stock Miatas with some sticky tires and a roll cage. If you've ever noticed there is a distinct lack of s13 time attack cars, but a lot of s14s.

I think the issue has something with the rear suspension geometry, and swapping in an S14 subframe apparently fixes it a bit, but not completely.

At the end of the day, they can be very fast, but it seems it requires a LOT more tire to get them to perform on the same level as other vehicles. Especially considering they weigh 2,600ish lb. You can fit 265s under the stock fenders, which sounds like a combo that should just be gnarly on a track, but it strangely isn't.

EDIT: Or maybe everyone's just doing it wrong. iono.

My poor baby threw a gear linkage today.... Had to limp to the garage with only 3rd / 5th and 1st at random intervals.. Ended up finally finding third and keeping it in that gear.

Hopefully its nothing too serious.

Chips, I think you'll find that's common.
What does the owners forum say?

I remember driving a fairly new one through the auctions a loooooong time ago, with only 1 gear.....

:irked:👍
