The first part isn't correct, there's differing permissions for classes of inmates. Not everyone is allowed the same tasks or possessions.

Some inmates are given a bill per day of food (a nominal $1-2/day fee), upon release. It depends on the jurisdiction.

The "free health care" isn't any better than the clinics that have been available for years to the rest of the country.

The gun issue answers its own question...nobody "on the outside" wants a prison system that affords the right to self-defense via weapons to inmates.

But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of mocking those damn socialist communist handout hippies.
