I know this is a bit odd but a post in Racism in Certain Lobbies Thread got me interested about Furries. A guy there is upset about other people online making fun of Furry Fandom. Then I typed Furries in Google and searched a bit (i don't really know about Furries). And people seem to hate their subculture. This thread is not aimed to make fun of Furries. Why do people hate them? I don't see anything wrong with people who draw animals or wearing a mascot costume and likes MLP. Why?

 I have no real opinion.. I had to google it too, but it does seem to be a thing. When I was young it was Thundercats  I may leave the internet for a while, because yeah, it does appear to be a sexual thing too.

sexual thing.

Sexual thing?

sexual thing

Refer to the 3rd part of this documentary to answer the question. ;)

Is there adult rated furry art? Yes. Is that what the whole fandom is about? No.

Thing is, people tend to think about sex quite a bit and you can see it everywhere. Anime fandom has plenty of sexual stuff floating around. So does the Sci-Fi fandom. Does'nt mean that's what its about. Correct? ;)

Whilst I think people like it just for the sake of doing so, I don't particularly care what people like/don't like.
I don't think that's the 'problem', I think it's when it becomes a sexual thing.
This is the point where it gets creepy for me.

I don't understand why people care. As long as they're not talking about it 24/7, I'm okay with it. I have the same stance with bronies, gays, bisexuals, even straights.

I still have to watch that documentary before I can even say anything about them. :) Though middle aged men Furries are a bit creepy.

This pretty much. As long as you're decent, I don't care what you're into.

tbh I'm more okay with Furries than people who think that Dubstep and Big Room House is good electronic music.

I'm not imagining things but I felt the loneliness in the way they speak in the documentary. Its almost like depressing.

^I gotta take that back. I said that after finishing the part 2. I've finished the documentary and I can say Furries are 👍

Edit:

People should understand others belief/culture/lifestyle first before hating them. Educating oneself doesn't hurt.

👍 And I recommend watching that documentary to everyone who think that it's a negative thing.

Anyway, I am a furry. Not since a long time ago but I love the fandom and find it fascinating.

See, when you're an adult there are certain things and stereotypes that the society expects from you. And here you have a bunch of grown up people who said "You know what? Screw you. I like cartoon animals. I like dressing up as a giant fluffy raccoon and making other people smile." These are honest people who don't take themselves seriously, and I mean that in the best way possible. I find those to be one of the best traits a person can have.

I think Furries are being bullied because of how "cute" their hobby are. People tend to hurt other people who they think won't fight back.

Yup, it boils down to the bandwagon thinking. Being into "childish", as perceived by the large society, things like cartoons and cute animals is one of those things that doesn't fall under the things that a grown up person is "supposed" to like.

But honestly I don't give a flying... about people hating and disliking it. If someone doesn't understand it, I will do my best to explain it and will answer all of their questions. Now if that person just covers up the ears and goes "LALALALAyoujerkofftolassieLALALALA" as I'm trying to make a rational argument, then that person is an idiot uncapable of a basic discussion and I will head my own way. And that goes for any subject in life. There's never a point to try and discuss with people who are not willing to discuss. :)

Meh I don't care but I think it should be a private thing. Especially the sexual side of it.

Apparently (can't remember where I saw it but it sticks in my mind.) more people than not these days have some sort of fetish.
I am not going to research that but meh. If you don't involve me or anyone else who doesn't want to do it and it isn't immoral then fine do as you want.

That goes for everything though.
I don't want to see someone groping their girlfriend on a parkbench any more than I want to see people in fursuits doing it.
Yes that does go for everything. Sex should always be private.

I don't have a problem with it, I'm just unsure why one would create an alternate persona (fursona) for themselves to represent good characteristics, traits, or any kind of image they might want to portray.. why not just integrate them into your every day behavior? Is it the symbology that does something for people? Is it reasonable to think that furries might feel they can be something else - something that is lacking or they feel they need to hide, while basically hiding behind a furry mask? I'm genuinely curious. The videos (haven't watched them all so far) seem to be when and how, and the community, rather than why.

Just like in video games we create our own character, give it a name and act whatever we want to be in the game. Them, they do it in real life. They remind me of DnD people.

Some people like the community, some like the art, and some like the freedom to create something that's theirs.(Or a combination of the 3.)

In every single fandom you're going to get explicit stuff, it doesn't matter what you're into.

Yep. There's extreme fringes for nearly anything - look at 50 Shades of Grey, it started life as Twilight fan-fic.

Meh I don't care but I think it should be a private thing. Especially the sexual side of it.

Sexual stuff should always be, IMO. Apart from that, I really don't care what other (consenting) people are doing behind closed doors.

Apparently (can't remember where I saw it but it sticks in my mind.) more people than not these days have some sort of fetish.

I think that boils down to a lot of folks looking to explore a bit, sexually, and not wanting to seem resolutely "normal". Which is such a moving target anyway, a nebulous idea that, let's be frank, sounds a bit boring.

*is magically drawn out* There's not really a definition for furries, honestly, even furries don't know how to define it. XD Rule of thumb, if you see someone with an avatar like my own, or they're wearing a goofy-ass tail, they're a furry. (And, if they don't look completely insane, which yeah half of us do XD, then they're probably nice people, hard to be mean to people when you like fluffy adorable animal suits.)

Oh, and since I AM a furry, I obviously don't have a problem with it. :P
