I got my G25 about 4 months ago or so. I have to be honest I was expecting way more. I always hear people talk about how great the wheel is and everything. I must say I have been very disappointed with it. The gear box feels very cheap to me. The force feedback is terrible compared to DFP, and sometimes it's just flat out unrealistic the way it works. I have actually gone back to using my DFP because honestly, I like it way better. The only thing that I do like more about the G25 are the pedals. The pedals are amazing in my opinion but the rest of it has just been one big disappointment to me. Is there anybody else that feels this way or am I alone?

Well it is true that the shifter is the weak side of the wheel but i find the FFB to be very accurate maybe your wheel is defective or something...
anyways if you dont want it anymore ill take it!
haha

What games do you use it with?

GT5P doesn't get the best out of it, but its fantastic with PC sims.

The shifter does feel a bit cheap, but at least there is one. And the wheel of the G25 feels much more precise and solid for me. I found the driving, especially catching a back end stepping out, to be much sharper and actually easier with the G25, because it is less sluggish than the DFP.

Yeah, I'm using it with only GT5P. I also find it a pain to hook up all the time. Do you have to use the shifter for the G25, or can I just hook up the wheel and the pedals?

As far as I can remember (I don't have a G25 anymore), you have to connect the shifter.

Also an advantage of the G25 wheel over the DFP is the larger (or is it "bigger") diameter of the G25.

Lol pretty much how it felt after the fanatec 911 turbo wheel opened my eyes... Well the shifter I bought a SST Lightning shifter very fast but was actually quite happy with the wheel itself.

But as you say it´s not designed to give realistic force feedback it´s designed to be easy to use. Little resistance, easier turning less aches and smoother and very precise both on pedals and wheels. I do love my fanatec 911 wheel but it´s more realistic feel and force feedback is definiatly more tiring :). Real wheels do have some resistance may be why you preferr the DFP.

But as you say the pedals are brilliant and very easilly moddable and is more precise than the 911 pedals for example. So you could use them use the leo bodnar usb addon and still run the DFP if you preferr that?

How much does the fanatec cost?

QFT. 👍
You just got to remember that the G25 is made to be cheap. Sure the shifter feels cheap and the force feedback isn't that strong, but you can say that the leather stitching of the wheel, the feel of the pedals and the overall quality of the product is better than the other wheels for pretty much less.....

i'm a fairly new G25 owner (today is 1 week and a day) but in my opinion its better in every way compared to the DFP which my pedals failed that brought on the G25 purchase. I agree the shifter does in-fact feel light and cheap but it's fun being able to select the gears. I did the mod by stiffening the spring tension to the shifter so it selects/clicks into gear with more resistance giving it a better feel. I find the G25 a lot smoother and more precise than the DFP i had since GT4(using the exact same FFB settings etc). I never looked back. My driving and especially drifting has improved loads more, plus kicking a clutch and throwing the shifter does give for a more involved/realistic driving experience IMO. Sorry to hear you aren't enjoying yours but i love mine. :)👍

G25 is an outstanding product in my opinion - very nice looking & good quality for the price.

I'm not sure what you're saying about the FFB. I have not tried any PC games, but the FFB is very weak in GT5P, strong in Ferrari Challenge, can be set strong in GRID & is also quite "descriptive" in F1:CE. I suspect your complaint has more to do with the game (GT5P) than the wheel itself.

Everything is relative... The force feedback the G25 delivers in all my PC sims is worse than on the 911 wheel. As for GT 5P I can´t say since I only used my 911 wheel here but I do hope the G25 is better. Though it doesn´t sound like it from your description.

The OP said that the G25's FFB is not as good as the DFP - it's a long time since I had a DFP, but I remember it being very similar to the G25, but not quite as "smooth" feeling.

I'm not commenting on the 911 wheel, as I've never tried it, I'm just saying that the character of the FFB has more to do with the way it's modelled in the game than with the wheel itself.

The DFP is a very good product for the price, but the G25 is unquestionably superior in every way: looks good, feels good with the (larger) leather-wrapped wheel, has a gated shifter & clutch, & far superior pedals.

So yes, the PO may be "alone". :odd:

Ah ok I see :)

You would be amazed how much different the force feedback feels with different wheels. dfp/G25/911 feel quite different to eachother and requires different force feedback settings in game.

I can see some preferring the DFP over the G25 even though I agree mainly because of the pedals the G25 is a better package :)

I can believe that there would be differences between the FFB feel of different wheels. But the huge difference of the FFB on the same wheel, suggests to me that the game itself has the biggest influence.

I understand that there are differences between the 911 wheel & the G25 - there are pros & cons to each - if I didn't have a G25 I would certainly be interested in trying the 911 before making a purchase decision.

Lost me there with the same wheel part?

He means, the G25 has different FFB levels depending on the game. Therefore it has more to do with the game than the wheel, in regards to FFB strength.

;)

Thank you D.R.!

That's why you Mods get the big bucks...

Ok but I tried both the DFP, G25 and 911 in about 10 different titles so yes you can see a red line in their behaviour. So it´s not something unique about weaker force feedback in GT 5P

I believe you! :)

Having made the progression DF, DFP, G25, I agree with the OP that the FF on the G25 is far weaker in the GT series. I too was very surprised and disappointed that even when set to maximum, the G25 FF in GT5 Prologue is pathetic.

Consequently, I was then very surprised to find the wheel is actually capable of quite strong FF in other games, notably Race Driver: Grid and, to a lesser extent, Ferrari Challenge.

This suggests that the FF programming in GT5 prologue is set far to weak for the G25 – I really, really hope they will alter this for GT5.

What perplexes me is why there is no specific G25 adjustment in GT5 P – I know you can use the DF section in "Options" to adjust it, but why do they ignore the G25 as if it didn't exist when at the same time depicting all other Logitech wheels?

Have to say how great the adaptability of the G25 is though: I ditched the G25 wheel to use a Lotus Elise wheel (which of course accentuates the low FF due to the larger diameter). I also cut up the gear lever unit to fit a Lotus gearlever shroud. The pedals are fantastic though – and being modular with M6 bolt threads in the bases, you can invert them and configure them as you wish. I made mine a copy of my real Lotus:

This level of realism would have been almost impossible with the DFP's plastic, 2-pedal set-up in my old cockpit:

As both pedals have failed in the DFP cockpit, I'm considering upgrading to a G25 – but I wonder if Logitech have a further development of the G25 (with brake balance adjustor, etc.) in waiting for the launch of GT5. Surely the "top of thec range" model should have all the features that the current official GT wheel, DF GT, has! Because I suspect there must be something coming, I'm waiting at the moment. If nothing appears, I may go for the Fanatec 911 wheel.

that's a nice elise wheel you got there :)

but I have to disagree with you on the ffb strength, if put on ten in gt5p its just fine, both grid and ferrari challenge have crap force feedback (especially FC) and grid sucks with a wheel anyway so who cares...

street cars/race cars do not have steering resistance of a friggin truck...

Fine compared to what? Certainly not to a real car. Have you ever noticed that if you let a car-driving but sim cockpit novice try your rig, they are all over the place – mainly because the steering forces are so unrealistically light!

Depends what car you have! Like I said, I own a real Lotus (an Exige Cup with a 270bhp supercharger). It has no steering servo and I have been on track with it many times. Believe me, the forces on the G25 (set to the maximum, 10), when driving an Elise 111R (tuned) in GT5 Prologue, are a mere shadow of those encountered on the real car when driven energetically on its semi-slick tyres.

Even my power assisted steering, 300ZX Twin Turbo generates higher forces at the wheel (though with a DFP, the 300ZX in GT4 was not bad).

Furthermore, my other light cars with PAS have a stronger steering feel than the G25

The 106 in GT4 on the ice arena with the DFP was not bad for practicing though!

My Smart Brabus Xclusive Roadster-Coupé has very little weight – particularly at the front, being rear-engined, yet despite this and the fact that it does have power steering, it still has more forces through the wheel than the G25!

I can hardly imagine any enthusiast's car having less feel than the G25. Talking of trucks, funnily, I used to drive a Range Rover – and this was perhaps the lightest, most feel-free wheel I've ever experienced! I traded it in for a new Durango ages ago for the far better feel through the wheel!

Curious to know what you actually drive for real that makes you feel the G25 in GT5 P is fine?

:sly: I'm just supporting my position re. the G25 FF in GT5 p with hard facts.

(I have other cars that are not relevant to the discussion)

That's a 60 page thread! Really don't want to go through all that.

Not having driven a real Ferrari, I can't be for certain how they feel – but I am sure that the forces at the wheel – especially on track – will be fairly high.

As I said, I feel that the FF in GT5P is simply too weak. In FC it is slightly stronger, but the game is (IMHO) so pathetic that I couldn't be bothered after a couple of tries.

The G25 can produce surprisingly strong forces. I tried a PS2 game I'd been given (a NfS) which had some compatibility issues with the wheel I think, but it was producing very strong forces on the wheel.

Also as I said above, Race Driver: Grid has a stronger FF, but I still don't think it's enough to be realistic.

I still think the G25 is good value though – especially the fantastic modular pedals.

Humm nice cockpit speedy but i hope you do know that putting a real wheel on the g25 isnt really good , because its bigger and way heavier your motors will end up dieing faster then you think!

why so? They aren´t working any harder it´s just that the force feedback will feel weaker if you get a wheel with proper grip and larger diameter :)
