G25 - Am I alone?

SpeedyK- You seem to have a ton more experience than I do but the sports cars that I have driven (STI, 335i, GTR, M3, M5) all had steering at around 4-6 in GT5p. Maybe in a elise with no power steering or lower power steering it could be closer to 10 but not in most of the street cars the game has. Maybe in a tuned viper or vette and definetly a 11r it would be stronger, but not in a 135, STI, M3 or any of those cars.

Well, here's a completely unbiassed report form someone else:

My wife normally drives our Peugeot 106 GTI (with PAS), she also likes to drive the 300ZX (with PAS).

I got her to climb into my cockpit and, in GT5P, take a Mini Cooper S (as the nearest equivalent to the 106 - also small, fwd and good power-to-weight ratio) around the Eiger mountain track.

It was set to FF on max with all aids off.

And, without any prompting, she said that the steering was ridiculously unrealistic – far too light and nothing like a real car.

I realise that the FF is weaker with a larger diameter wheel (as I mentioned above when I posted the pics of my cockpit) – but the Lotus wheel has an only slightly larger diameter (1.5" more) than the stock G25 one – an extra 3/4" leverage isn't going to make a huge difference. I was already concerned when I tried the the stock wheel with GT HD at how weak the FF was, but hoped that this would be better in GT5 P. It isn't!

I do hope they sort this out for GT5, as the G25 wheel can produce much greater forces, as other games show. To be honest, I don't really care if it wears out more quickly with higher forces. The price of a G25 is a tiny fraction of the cost of one real track day ( track fee, fuel to travel to and from the track as well as on it, brakes, tyres, general wear and tear and depreciation). Even if it was bust after a year it would be worth it 👍

That's a 60 page thread! Really don't want to go through all that.

Not having driven a real Ferrari, I can't be for certain how they feel – but I am sure that the forces at the wheel – especially on track – will be fairly high.

As I said, I feel that the FF in GT5P is simply too weak. In FC it is slightly stronger, but the game is (IMHO) so pathetic that I couldn't be bothered after a couple of tries.

The G25 can produce surprisingly strong forces. I tried a PS2 game I'd been given (a NfS) which had some compatibility issues with the wheel I think, but it was producing very strong forces on the wheel.

Also as I said above, Race Driver: Grid has a stronger FF, but I still don't think it's enough to be realistic.

I still think the G25 is good value though – especially the fantastic modular pedals.

Sorry! I forgot that that FC thread has pages & pages in it!

I wouldn't agree that the FFB in FC is "slightly" stronger - on the high setting it's a lot stronger. I agree with those that complain it's a bit "truck-like" on the high setting.

I think that the FFB that you encounter IRL in everyday driving (particularly in a car with power-steering) is not that strong, but when you start throwing a car around corners, it's a different matter - it's necessary to apply some force to the wheel in order to control it through the turns. GT5P doesn't really model this aspect IMO.

Well, my wife doesn't really throw our Pug 106 about and still thinks that the FF on GT5P with the G25 is far too light...
