G25 Clutch video

To help answer a lot of people's questions about the g25 clutch compatibilities, I created this video. This separate thread is so someone doesn't have to sort through a thread that contains hundreds of posts to find specific discussion on the clutch.

The clutch works well. Clutch techniques to upset the car's balance during braking and during clutch kicks do work. The clutch's engagement does not work in situations where you will let it catch slowly as if you are pulling up a driveway slowly. There is a catch point and when it hits if you are dropping the clutch on high revs you will do a burnout. If you rev moderately, then it won't be a burnout. You engage it quickly as you would in racing scenarios.

in GT5P demo G25 had weak feeback.. can you steer with your finger? or is it much stronger?

* Can you simulate a clutch slipping?

* Can you stall the engine when you let go of the clutch too soon without revv the engine?

In GTR/GTL these things are possible.

^ yeah those are the questions that jump out at me

1. Can you stall

2. Can you slip the clutch

3. im sure you can double clutch but i dont think logitech put Synchros in that setup... :dopey: so you prolly wont feel it regardless! (were not on that level yet)

4. Is the G25 capable of drifting real easy because i hated the force feedback refusal to drift: it wouldn't turn fast enough...( i ask because no footage of you during drift scene.)

thats all 4 now!

If you are at zero mph or kmh, and you give it gas to go from a stand still without using the clutch, the car doesn't go.

1 minute into the video I performed a drift with wheel footage.

This is going to make me sound like a jerk here, if so, it's unintentional...but this is sincere how I will put it...
Drifting is made to look easy from the experience I have with it, and not because of the G25. There's no secret in setup or tuning, its down to experience with timing and technique to drift.

I've let my friends use my wheel to play, and they aren't exactly automatically drifting because of the wheel, not even close.

I was thinking of sharing a drifting tutorial, thats why I didn't want to share any scenes of me drifting with the new clutch features yet. Would anyone be interested in a tutorial?

Alot of people would love a tutorial I would think ... great vid man and now all I need is a play seat and a G25 and GT: P :( costs a fortune

Yes, why not. I was waiting for how long you are going to update your drift tutorial thread for so damn long. Like the video link always expired and all, or that you don't actually have any description on how to drift. But it would be great if there was a tutorial. I still find it hard to drift with my G25. I can drift some corners but its almost impossible for me to do link ups or chain drifts. But by the looks of things in that video, you seem rather a lot smoother than your GT4 drifts. Well thats a good sign of there is no longer the "dreaded snap understeer" from GT4.....

and try not to post so many times, just use the

to multi quote :sly:

That multi quote feature is pretty slick. Thanks for the tip.

lol

but what i mean is is STRONGER feedback then the demo?

How strong are your arms? haha
I think it's about the same. Feedback changes based on the car and driving speed. When I use the Audi R8 on superspeedway and go 250+ kmh the steering is very strong. When I'm in the NSX and drifting through London, the feedback doesn't feel as strong. When I take it on superspeedway, the strength increases. Simulating the downforce and speed. This is what I feel, or could it just be a simulated effect when I'm driving fast on the speedway verses tossing the car around in drifts.

haha im pretty weak :P
but when i was racing in gtr2 or Rfactor, the force seemed so much stronger then ones in GT5P demo, but then again they were racing cars.. well just wondering

Great video, thank you!

But I didn't quite understand your answer for this question:

So, is it possible to stall if the clutch is lifted too fast?

^ yeah those are the questions that jump out at me

1. Can you stall

Is there an ignition button I don't know about to start the car after you stall?Im pretty sure that they haven't programmed the cars to stall..not without an ignition button to start the car back up again after you do..

I know these questioned were at Breaker but I figured I may be able to answere for you guys

How do you know you are close to the clutch catch point?
FF ?

Can you stall?

No the engine will not stall, but if the clutch is not engaged and you attempt to change gears you will go in neutral until you engage. The catch point seems to be about the halfway point of depression, but that will prob be different for each G25 and change after continued use, I would say that would really depend on your setup

But I didn't quite understand your answer for this question:

So, is it possible to stall if the clutch is lifted too fast?

No, you will still go into what ever gear is selected

No the engine doesn't actually stall, but it does die out (so to say).

say for example you drop the clutch at idle, the engine just drops revs and wont move, flattening the throttle wont do anything, you need to press the clutch so the engine comes back to idle.

Some clutch information that I left on another thread that would answer some questions here as well.

"The "A" class is pretty difficult to obtain gold. A lot of fun though!

I thought....maybe I'm making this very difficult because I'm using the G25 and clutch enabled on simulation / pro mode with all driving aids off. I'm determined to keep at it. What gets me the most is sometimes I get my timing off on using the clutch and it throws me in Neutral because I didn't clutch before I downshifted. Altough in real life, the shifter has some kind of gear resistenance lock that wouldn't allow it to pop out without the clutch pushed. But here, if your not careful and take it out of gear without clutch and then shift, it goes into N.

I fiddle with the shifter to pop it back to neutral and then shift back into the gear again and suffer with losing seconds in my time...but then again I appreciate this happening because it's what comes with the territory of using the clutch. Makes it more satisfying when no mistakes are made and a gold is taken for the win.
"

since everyone already asked my questions ill just throw up some new ones that haven't been asked yet.

can you grind the gears?

does the clutch/flywheel wear and tear during long races?

how does the reverse function work with the shifter?

is there different resistant patterns with the shifter with different cars? ex. zo6 shifter compared to a integra type-R

so it drops to 0 RPM?

Yeah it drops down below 100 or so (probably zero never looked closely). The engine sound drops out also, unless you flatten the throttle, then it makes some slight ticking/lugging sounds, but doesnt move or increase revs.
