Hey everybody! This is my custom rig, completely build by my hands and really proud of it! After a lot of changes we are on version 2.0 .
The leather seat is from a BMW E36 and it super comfortable! I can do 3 hour sessions and not get tired from it at all. It has 5 different adjustments and its one of the best choices as the newer seats that got lots of adjustments unfortunately are electric and not easy to use. The adjustments are
angle of the seat base, height of the seat base, extension for supporting the knees, front-backward on the whole seat and bending the back.
The handbrake is from a Nissan D21 and it's the easiest handbrake to install EVER. I literally added it with zero effort! When I lift it the circuit gives signal to the gear box and presses button X. I used the standard mechanism and electric circuit on it and it works like a charm. Of course I removed the button so that it's free to return. It's not as heavy to let it return on it self but I could make it if I wanted to since it's hollow and I could add weight to it, but I prefer if I return it since its better controlled this way!
The pedals are removed from their base, turned upside-down and reverted to match the exact car position. I have used a metal base with several holes in between so that I can change the space in between all 3 pedals to what I need, i.e. the clutch closer to the brake etc. I have added Nixxim springs for both brake and clutch and used the original clutch spring for the accelerator because it felt too light for me in the first place.
The rig is designed to be completely customisable. I have added 4 holes on each side of the wood holding the wheel which in combination with the 2 holes in the metal thingies holding it I have 8 different height adjustments for the wheel. The wheel is not covered at all and is cooling well. The gearbox and handbrake were positioned exactly like in a car and everything feels right at home when you get on the seat. The rig can be split in half or in 3 pieces. 1.)Wheel and Monitor 2.) seat and/or 3.)the console with the gearbox and handbrake. Also you can change the distance that the seat or the console are screwed in relation to the wheel, which is not needed actually since the seat is so customisable you will never need that.
Every one who has tried to make a custom rig knows how hard it is to make it steady as a rock and to find the perfect seat position. I did mistakes too from the start but little by little I corrected all of them until I found perfection. It is really a joy to drive on it and it doens't get tiring after 3 or 4 hours straight.
My future plans unfortunately are on an XBONE to play FM5 and I am thinking of selling this. When I prepared to sell it I fixed all the last adjustments it needed and when I tried it, it felt soooooo good that now I am at at a hard spot.... add to that, that I purchased AC and I am in love with it and you can see how hard it's going to be to separate from this. If I sell it, I will sell it complete because first I am bored to add everything back to the original shape and I love the idea of creating a new custom rig for the Thrustmaster TX which I am most likely going to get after the G27. This time I will use dexion type metal (something like this http://www.bristol-storage.co.uk/st...elving_-_bristol_storage_the_online_depot.jpg ) for the rig because its a totally new challenge and the holes on them make it easy to adjust everything. It's gonna be really interesting!
Last I am ready to make the mod that lowers noise, makes the FFB stronger and reduces the dead zone. Now if I do that I am not so sure if I will sell it in the end.... I have bought both Pcars and AC which are coming this year and I could wait for a year easily and see how prices drop for XBONE and TX (or even a base model been sold since I would want it with the GTE, other pedals and TH8).
