Hey guys I have owned a G27 for about a week and I'm decent at racing but absolutely hopeless at drifting I cant manage to hold onto one decent slide with out spinning right the way round or flicking back the other way.

Today I am going to spend the whole day practicing and what I would like to know is what would be a good car to learn in? I already own a few like the 86,S13,sil80 and a few rx's.

Also what mods would should be done to it for a novice like myself to be able to learn easier, are there any suspension adjustments that are crucial?

And finally what are the best tyres to use?

Thanks in advance.

Not a pro yet but i can hold some nice drifts. I would suggest using the s13 (my fav). It's very stable and predictable. Also, the 350z's are good too. You can use some of the tunes from the tuning thread, although, some people say to try and drift the car stock, it's up to you really. I would suggest working on your entries (feint, braking, etc) and throttle work. All of this is only gonna come with behind the wheel time. It's frustrating as hell first but when it clicks you'll be hooked. Happy sliding.

Well firstly the tyres you should be using are the comforts, soft or medium, your choice (depending on the car). As for the mods, all I do is mods for the handling, LSD, suspension, roll bar etc. Try to use a lower powered car at first just so you can get the hang of drifting, the S13 is a good place to start.
And when drifting, if you start to lose the drift, plant the throttle down or give it a quick clutch kick, works for me :sly:

Ok I'vr been driving the S13 for about the last hour and I think I have made some slight improvement, the car is pretty stock just suspension lsd and exhaust.

When you get a chance take a look at the tune thread and look at the s13 tune there. It's pretty damn good. I use that tune and i run comfort hard/mediums. Keep at it. Oh yeah, watch the drift bible. The techniques apply.

Ok mate I'll go check it out now, is the drift bible the one with tsuchiya showing you how to drift all car types? If it is I have seen it great dvd.

Ill give that a go, I have been using softs for most of today and not having much luck, I have made a slight improvement, but I'm still not putting anything decent together.

I can drift with the wheel, but imo its just not realistic... or very fun.

I can drift extremely well with the DS3, and in real life, so its a little disappointing having the wheel do non-realistic force feedback movements when drifting a car that I know has the right suspension/lsd tune.

Well I have been at it all day again today and I have struggled again I have made no noticeable improvement. I tried a few different cars and cant say I was any better in any of them.
I have a favour to ask, can someone gift me a low value car that has a drift setup that you know can be drifted well with a G27, I am happy to either return the car or trade you anything you would like from my garage.
This way I can rule out that my poor drifting is setup related.

A setup that works perfectly for one person might be causing slight problems for another so just borrowing a car probably isn't the best thing to do. TwinturboCH came up with the S13 tune in the settings thread and it is very good. He also uses a G25 so it should work well with maybe a few slight tweaks to suit your own driving style after you get the hang of drifting well.

I'm trying to use a G25 at the moment too and its very frustrating coming from being able to drift pretty well with the ds3 and then looking like an idiot with the wheel spining and shooting off the track all the time :(

It's just a case of practicing ****oads I'm afraid. Id expect to not being any good until a week or so and only be as good as a DS3 after maybe a month.
Most of the really good drifters that use wheels in the videos more than likely are drifting with a wheel for at least a year or more on other games.

I think being able to drift in reallife before the game can make it abit harder too in some cases as it's alot harder in the game even though it isn't that un-realistic afterall. Only difference is your not getting the feedback the rest of a real car gives you from sitting in it so reactions and inputs can be too early/late or the wrong amounts in the game and it can be frustrating as it doesn't work out such as I felt at first about drifting in GT5 but the new u did the more I realised it's actually pretty close to be fair.

It takes time my friend. You can't expect to be a DK in a week with a wheel. Behind the wheel time is really whats gonna help. A lot of cars can be drifted stock but trust me that s13 tune is good, just work on your technique. Don't give up and use a DS3 ( it's easier plus that wheel "flicking" on replay is really lame imo). When it clicks with the wheel it will be so addicting, right now you have to pay your dues.
