G27 or DFGT?

Logitech is having a 50% off sale, and I would like to know which wheel I should get. The primary game I'll use it for is GT5, and Dirt 3 if I get it, and I'll mainly use my wheel for drifting/ lap attack. As I said before; which wheel should i get?

Note: I can afford either, so it's mainly a question of value.

G27 all the way, the DFGT sucks for drifting and the FFb is poor compared to a G27.

IVe got a DFGT and it sucks :P Pedals get grease whoch causes them to come on and my aggressive driving style has managed to make the Shifter come out :(

Its a no-brainer really! G27 is so much better in terms of everything.

Oh and if monsterGAUZ comes in here saying G25 is better, don't listen to him ;)

Actually in some ways the G25 is better, G27 H-Shifter doesn't have a sequential mode.

They seriously put an H-pattern on that thing? What were they thinking... Is that the only reason people say G25 is better? I've been thinking about buying a G27 but was wondering if there's a good reason to get G25 instead. I don't care about the shifting pattern since I use paddles.

As far as value goes, the DFGT is the best bet. You get the racing wheel experience at a very low cost. However when it comes to quality, you obviously get what you pay for. The force feedback is sufficient but not great. The pedals are soft but can be improved with bungie cords. If you race every night and this is not a fad for you, go with an expensive wheel like the G27/25. If you just want something to improve your occasional racing experience...the DFGT will fit the bill and leave you some cash to buy Dirt3 and some other games. Whatever you choose, be sure to leave room in your budget for a decent wheel stand. The force feedback in either wheel is too strong for you to just rest it on your lap or mount to a folding table.

I bought the G25. I did this on purpose, I could have bought the G27 as well but I chose the G25 because I checked forums, tests and stuff. G25 is louder but has the better feeling and less play. This is the only reason, G27 has a better H-shifter, is quieter, has more buttons but this wasn't important at all for me
Oh and a sequential mode is nice to have :P

I have a DFGT and I personally believe it's lacking. It's noisy, not very smooth and feels cheap. Don't make the same mistake and spend a few more dollars.

Yeah also too add in logitech screws you over if the wheel is 6 months old when mine broke I was so mad at logitech I went out and bought a fanatec wheel. Nothings broken yet.👍

I've upgraded my DFGT to a G27.
HIGHLY recommended. The pedal resistance is a million times better.
I use the H Shifter more than I use the paddles also.
Force feedback is also much smoother, and quieter.

Guess what guys! I decided to just go for the g27, only to find that both it and the DFGT were sold out. The sale ends today too! What a buzz-kill. But thanks for the feedback, at least I know what to get when another deal presents itself.

shame for ya friend but I'm surprised yet another mid range wheel vs budget wheel thread comes about, non discount a g25/27 is about a 3rd more but hell of a lot more wheel, if it's a direct comparison no price considered a 25/27 pisses all over a dfgt. The ONLY reason to choose a dfgt over these wheels is cost.

I actually bought a DFGT after issues with my G25.

I agree DFGT is very good value for money; a decent wheel used by some top drivers.
The G25 is a much better experience (but for me not for reliability) overall, you can expect the same of the G27.
I understand people really like the Thrustmaster T500RS, but that might get a bit costly since Logitec will not give a promotion on that :). For other alternatives seems a bit more complicated.

(I only have experience with a DFGT)

I might be that other wheels are better (G25/27), but that does not mean this wheel is crap. It is very cool to drive with this wheel and it does what it has to do very well. Besides, it is fully supported by GT5 and i don't think it is lacking something.

Be wise, and spend as little as you can and buy the DFGT. If you insist on spending all cash you had in your budget for a wheel, then feel free to buy the more expensive models.

I personally am very glad with the DFGT and have not experienced any 'bad' things (it is a decent and well built product that works very well)

I'm going agree with this, had my DFGT since August last year, the only bad experiences I've had are:

1) The loudness of the wheel
2) The softness of the peddles
3) Lack of support for Linux distro's (but that's to be expected :P).

Wow, your's broke at 6 months old? I've had mine for 3 years and the only thing that's broken on mine is the gearstick when downshifting.

I've gotten a DFGT because i am moving a lot (between houses), and it would not matter as much as with a G25/27 when it broke. its very reliable as far as i know, so...

If you want a wheel and the h-shifter/clutch isn't a big deal:
For GT5 ONLY, get the DFGT.
For anything else, get the G27.

The Fanatec Carrera wheel is another option for a cheap wheel that has 5 programmable modes. I really like the dedicated drift mode on mine as I drift with a completely different setup than I race with. I also programmed a mode with 900 degree rotation for Karting and the Formula Gran Turismo to smooth them out. My drift mode tune on the wheel lets me hang with the 6 axis drifters easily.

I just ordered a G27 with my 50% off code.

Dude on OP said he's going to play Dirt also. Anyone mention the G25/27 "CLUNK" in the Dirt series games? I will be keeping DFGT for Dirt as the "CLUNK" is ridiculous...

Been playing on a number for Fanatec wheels lately. Mainly the Carrera and GT2. Carrera gear driven setup feels like a quicker DFGT, drift mode I don't find useful at all. I don't really feel like it makes the wheel spin faster, more like it starts to countersteer for you in weird situations. Also do not like the way drift mode feels with the Dirt series either. Hit a bump and it swings you right into countersteer when in some instances you don't need to. Feels really.... odd to me.

GT2 being belt driven I liked a lot more, but same stupid drift mode staring to countersteer for you. Drift mode turned off, liked both wheels a lot better. Carrera gear driven setup is louder than a G27 but maybe only a butt hair quieter than a DFGT. Tried both Fanatec wheels on standard pedals, pedals are JUNK. Both my friends who have them have had to open them up and do the "epoxy mod." As lame as DFGT pedals are, atleast they don't break.

Some say the DFGT and G27 are dated, but I'm gonna stick with Logitech for ease of exchange heaven forbid anything happen. Also do not feel the need for "drift" mode or wheel dampening settings on the games I play. The only thing I liked with Fanatec is on the fly adjustment wheel rotation in 10-degree increments. FGT, F1 cars and karts don't need 900-degrees. Hand over hand driving in an FGT/F1 or kart is pretty worthless.

End $0.02

Nooo! don't give up on the Fanatec drift mode feature. I remember the wierd feeling your talking about VERY well. There is a wierd interaction between the FFB strength, the LIN setting and the Drift number. You have to " balance the ratio of one to the other .

Try this Carrera drift setting: ( for drifting on CH tires only)
Deadzone: 010
Lin. 030
Abs 000
Drift 005
FF 010
Sens 230

I agree on the pedals though, mine are over due for the epoxy mod.

LOL! I played with dampening and linearity a bit, still didn't like the feel. A friend is set on getting the new Fanatic CSR Elite wheel and then go CSP so I'll reassess my opinion when he gets the new higher end setup.
