G27 Problems, please help

Hi guys,
bought a brandnew G27 and have many issues with it out of the box. Please chip in if you have any clues what's wrong. :grumpy:
I'll describe a few of the issues in the following (by the way I did forum search this):

- When ps3 boots up wheel and shifter is detected properly (green light on the shifter) BUT the dpad button on the shifter are dead, can't change the menus with it (it did work on a few occasions fur some reason but can't reproduce it )

- I run the wheel as controller 2 usually as this is what I'm supposed to do judging by posts on the Logitech support forum. However, for example in GT5TT sometimes I have to make the controller number 1, just in order to work the menus and start races. The shifter dpad does not work.

- During race (both in GT5TT and GT5P) the shifter unit sometimes looses gear, meaning it will jump to another gear for some reason, and then usually jump back after a second or two :scared:

- On one session I've had the wheel cut off power and go dead completely and had to restart my PS3. I'm using a different power socket now (directly on the wall, not relayed) to see if voltage spikes could have caused this.

Please help if you can confirm that I'm seeing is normal behaviour or a broken state of this wheel. I'm really gutted to have spend a fortune on this wheel and just having problems with it.. :yuck: (let alone not being able to compete in TT with no wheel to improve on my controller times)

Thanks
Ruppi

Check these threads Ruppi, maybe you can find some answers there...:

spy.

Thanks for the link spy, I already read through most of those. Did not see any new info.

What is curious to me is nobody seems to have trouble navigating ps3 menus (or game menus) with their shifter units. Nobody even talks or asks about it. And I think that is the main issue I'm having, so I think the shifter is broken..

I also wonder about the weird issue with the shifter loosing it's gear and the wheel disconnection issue I had during races. *sigh*

It would help if somebody with a g27 could confirm if the shifter should work to navigate menus. Please reply if you know

I also own a G27, and honestly I've never had any of this problems, so I can't really say they're part of the wheel's "Normal behaviour". The D-Pad on the shifter unit DOES work with menus, in GT5P and the XMB as well. I'm afraid to say mate, you're wheel seems broken to me :(.

Good luck 👍.

Thanks for the response CarBastard, that confirms it. Out of interest, can you use the shifter dpad in the XMB if you have a controller connected under port 2 (wheel is controller 1)?

Bizarrely when I was about to call Logitech customer support and I turned the PS3 and wheel on again dpad magically started to work in the XMB (as well as any games) :dunce:

The only thing I did differently is that I connected the USB cable first before plugging in the wheel power supply. Is that something you also do CarBastard? The order really matters with mine it seems. Will monitor this a few more days and see if it goes completely broken again

What I do is leave the wheel plugged to the power. When I'm going to use the wheel I first turn my PS3 on (I hate having controller in port 1), and when the controller is assigned I plug the G27 USB cable. I don't remember exactly what happens with controller in port 2. I hope this helps 👍.

EDIT: I tried with controller in port 2 (Starting the PS3 with the wheel already plugged in the USB) and the D-pad still worked fine with the XMB. Definitely, yours has something wrong :nervous:.

Thanks for your help, you have been most helpful!

I need to decide now when to send my wheel back now, I was planning to use it for GT5TT Academy.. Damn :indiff:

Thanks Logitech 👎

Mine works no problem as well. The way I power on is, 1) plug wheel into wall power, 2) plug USB into port one on ps3, 3) power on PS3.....havent had a single issue yet.

I woiuld return yours asap..

I'd say the quicker the merrier :sly:. It'll be a blast to play when it finally gets to work.

Agree, had it replaced this morning. Fortunately the hardware store I got it from is really friendly. They replaced it without making any fuss or even checking it was broken. So hopefully tonigth after work it'll all be good :)

Thanks everybody for your helpful responses in getting to the bottom of this 👍

I was going to suggest (might seem silly) to check all of the connections of the shifter unit to the wheel. My DFGT was acting up really bad once - but still working - when I realized the one plug just wasn't in nice and solid :dopey:

But good luck with the new unit, hopefully no issues.
