Wow. On paper, this thing looks as good as an 8800GT, the only thing lacking is stream processors. 64 for the 9600GT vs. the 8800GT's 112

But...

Other than that, im happy to see that newegg isn't price gouging this

*cough*E8400*cough

EDIT: the 9800GX2 is here:

First I will say I am shocked by how resonable they are priced on Newegg.

The 9600 doesn't really wow me, I still think I would rather have the 8800GT at this point but I know the 9800 is in the works and will just be awesome when it comes out. I'm currently running a 6600 so I am in desperate need of an upgrade, but I think I'm going to wait.

If anyone has an SLi board jump on two of these babies..

2 of these in SLi actually beat out the 8800 Ultra and perform JUST under the 8800GT SLi in all games I have seen except for Bioshock for some odd reason o.O

Anyways, I haven't been here in so long since I got rid of my PS2, but hopefully I can hang out more often that I got Race 07 and I'm about to pickup a Logitech G25 ;)

Take care!

What's the difference between the 9.6k and the 8.8k? And why all the fuzz if it's slower? Just asking.

I think the pricing of the GX2 is kinda much. I totally agree with the general review consensus that it packs a wallop for the price, but that price is still about $100 too much to be relevant.

I'd still personally go with SLi 9600GTs... but I guess we'll have to see how the other high-end cards perform.

Can you cross-fire 2 ATI cards on an nVidia mobo?

As far as I know the nVidia boards that support a 2 card setup only run (their own) SLI. For crossfire you have to have a Crossfire ready board. Even though both SLI and Crossfire do pretty much the same thing, the 2 system communicate differently between card to card and card to mobo.

Some can unofficially do both. This came up with a conversation between Burnout and I.

AFAIK the GX2 is two cards with an internal SLi bridge. Very similar setup to the 7950GX2, put together in a sandwhich arrangment.

Personally I'm completely unimpressed by Nvidias new 9-series line up. If I was in the Nvidia boat I'm be much more so inclined to get a second of whatever card I had to run in SLi.
