I have worked in the warehouse first at Circuit City and currently at HH Gregg and a friend of mine from CC went to do the same at Best Buy. From this experience I can tell you first hand that none of the salesmen at any of these large stores knows the first thing about practical use of the products they sell. All they know are the specs written on the box, and sometimes not even that. This amount of information can be found just as quickly, and more reliably, all across the web. If you want to speak to a knowledgeable salesperson before you spend a bunch of money I can completely understand that but please don't expect that person to be working any of these 3 companies or any where like them.

Can we just all agree and say "many" dont know, because saying "all" is an extreme generalization and not entirely true. i have met people who dont know anything but what it said on the box, and others I wonder why they are working there and not at Microsoft. Just depends on who you talk to - just like customer service anywhere, not everyone in an online tech support industry is qualified to be there either.

That's fair. My habit of lumping them all together is just a result of disliking so many of them. While there are always at least 1 or 2 people who know what they are talking about they almost never last and are greatly outnumbered by the ones who are only interested in their sales numbers and couldn't care less about what they sell or to whom.

Nobody ever got ripped off at New Egg or Tiger Direct? if you believe that, I have an island in Montana I'd like to sell you! I am willing to pay a little extra to talk to an actual person who can provide direct in person customer service. I have had great experience with Bestbuy, and I think just because their pricing strategy is not able to match NewEgg they get a bad rap. I agree about the Geeksquad however, there are cheaper local computer repair options. I have bought items from NewEgg before, but my next ultrabook will most likely come from Bestbuy.

Generally, no. Best Buy is an electronics store. Go there to buy your iPods and other consumer electronics. Don't go there to try building a PC. I paid twice as much for an internal SATA DVD drive as any of them found online. I didn't want to wait 3-4 days to use my new motherboard/RAM/CPU combo when I didn't realize the board lacked IDE support. I don't really think I need the help of a Best Buy employee to tell me which video card best fits my needs, or which set of memory will overclock the best. That one person hasn't tried every product. The Internet has.

Care to find me a link where Newegg or Tigerdirect are ripping you off in comparison to a brick and mortar store like Best Buy or others?

I dont know about your local best buy, but mine will price match newegg and tigerdirect if they are identical products. If they are differnt brands 9 times out of 10 they will do it anyway, but twice havent.

Their policy is to price match brick and mortar locations only. So, they don't have to. They price matched my TV, but also included the $100 shipping fee. So there's really not more reason to go to Best Buy. I'd rather support the company that is there for us in the first place.

Newegg doesn't try to sell me $99 3ft HDMI cables either.

Been doing some more looking around, and I found a computer that I really like....at Best Buy. The question I have for you guys is...would this computer allow me to run iRacing at max settings?

If necessary, I will update the GPU if you guys think I need to do so. But the big question is does this rig have enough processing power for iRacing?

Heres another one I'm looking at:

Ok guys I need a quick answer. would you recommend this for Iracing?

HP Pavilion p6-2019uk Desktop PC (Intel Core i3-2120 Processor, RAM 6GB, HDD 1TB, Intel HD Graphics, Wireless, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pavilion-p6-2019uk-Processor-Graphics-Wireless/dp/B006TX44BI/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1339510933&sr=1-1

Its only £270 brand new.

Many thanks in advance.

you're going to want a standalone video card and it can't use much power. Try a radeon hd 7750. No external power needed and decent but not great graphics power.
