The Golf GTi was first introduced in 1975 as an economical passenger vehicle that could also be sporty. It is considered one of the first hot hatches, and has been popular among the younger crowd over the years. There have been 7 generations to date, so which of these OG hot hatches is your favorite?

I had to go with the MK2, it has the classic boxy styling, black overfenders, and the option of the G60 supercharger.

For looks, I actually think the 3 looks best, especially the 20th anniversary, but overall, taking into account the massive turnaround of the Mark 5 and the way it modernised the classic GTI styling cues so successfully, it has to be that one.

Any of the last three are worth a vote but I went with the Mk5 as that marked a turning point in the GTI for the better.

Mk2 is more robust than Mk1, so it is more convenient for daily use. Mk5 is good, but I generally prefer older models, especially when it comes to servicing.

Choosing between ones I've driven, which means Mk1 and Mk7.

Mk7 is a great car - but the Mk1 was more fun, for me.

From what I can gather, the Mk3 and Mk4 were dross. Mk5 was a massive improvement but I've never liked the styling - both in their day, and now, they look quite blobby out on the road.
