Ghost utilization is a not so secret weapon of GT and now w/ the data logger capability and the ability to overlay your data w/ your favorite ghost as well as the great replays. So what creative uses of the ghost have you used to get the biggest result for you?
They say that football is a game of inches. Well I say racing, as far as the TT thing goes, is a game of tenths. When I load up a ghost that is significantly quicker then my time, it only reinforces what I already know, that person is faster then me. I also know that in order for me to go faster I have to have some kind of success more often, even if it is only a little bit or even a few hundredths. Speed is something that has to be looked for carefully and with focus. I do like to look at the top guys ghost to find out what gear is used in a particular turn or series of turns, I call that “the answers to the test.”
After I have gained as much info from the chosen ghost I then use it to attack my ghost with. I’ll try to chase the top ghost and see in the beginning how I can keep him close before he gets away and is of no further use to me. Then I destroy my ghost in the first part of the lap. As I destroy my ghost early I can then get back into my old rhythm on the rest of the track and end up w/ a faster lap. I just seem to have more success using my own ghost to make small gains rather then constantly have my rear end handed to me by the perfect line control or whatever style is being laid out by the alien De jour.
