Just after some good suggestions for a suitable gift for my wife. It is still a way off but she is due to have our first child in late July or early August and I thought it'd be nice to get her a little something to give to her on the day. What, if anything have you guys and girls bought/received that you think may be welcome?

Thanks!

Something for her and her alone would be best. You're going to get lots of stuff for the baby, so you're wife is going to feel a little left out. Something like a spa treatment, a nice big bunch of flowers, or just something to treat her.

Nice suggestions. I was thinking something smaller, so I can surprise her with it, flowers are great but are not easy to hide. Also something to keep, so maybe an item of jewellery like a necklace or something that she can keep on her.

I was thinking of a necklace, perhaps a locket to put your baby's first lock of hair? If you want to surprise her with flowers, the best thing to do is to have them waiting at home for her when she comes back from hospital (get a relative to pick them up) and drop them off.

Have been said already but a very big bouquet of flowers.

Mind you, I have no girlfriend, nor do I have been married and I don't know squat about women but I still think you can't go wrong with what I suggested.

First off, congratulations to you and your wife!

Well, I would probably go with an item of jewelry. Maybe a necklace or locket, as mentioned previously.
Only because they're easy to hide; otherwise I would've voted for the spa day, or general 'special treatment' day. :)

I would've thought something permanent would be the best option, flowers... I don't know, seems a bit obvious and temporary. In fact I would probably do both.

Get here this Swatch watch. Ebay is your friend.

This, but I would avoid flowers (some hospitals don't allow them), however teh focus on your wife is the main thing.

Congrats, dude!

I'd go with something like this. It's for your wife but clearly baby related and BONUS! if you have any other kids you can simply add to it. Provided she likes necklaces, of course.

Also, the massage suggestion sounds great and while she might otherwise love it, keep in mind that she will have just had a baby. As such, she might not be comfortable with her post-baby physique and the last thing she'd feel like doing is getting half naked in front of a stranger. Or she might still love it. Couldn't hurt to drop a subtle hint and see how she responds to it. :)

Also also, while flowers are nice, they're... too easy. And die in a week.

So do you know if it's going to be a boy? girl? octuplets?

I agree with this. She is the one doing the hard work. When my little girl was born, I went out and focused on Mom's comfort. Got her a new robe, bed spread, and her favorite, a really nice glider chair. Remember, she is going through nine months of dis-comfort.

glider chair

My father got my mother a Lay-z-boy recliner 25 years ago. Will last a long time as she is taking care of the baby. Plus when the baby is finally a boy you can move it into the entertainment room. It's a Win-win situation.

I agree with the jewelry, something she can wear everyday that reminds her of such a special time. Apart from that, just take really good care of her (as i'm sure you do/will).

Also, buy a nice bottle of booze that you can crack open, with your child, on their 18th or 21st birthday.

Second that last one, probably not as a gift to your wife however ;) , to a 16year old that sounds like a pretty cool thing to do.

All of the other idea's have pretty much been covered, however the one I would suggest would possibly be the chair, simply because its abit of a strange gift idea and thus will be more memorable, rather then a pendant which is quite a common gift. It also as said will make her feel that you care about how she is feeling during these 9 months.

These suggestions have all been great. The furniture one is good, but we are already currently awaiting delivery of our new sofa and the new armchair already arrived so we are good there too. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have a special bottle of beer that we picked up in Belgium that we will be opening once she can drink again. It is a Belgian beer which is sent off to the Champagne region for the fizz to be created. It is called Deus and is from the Bosteels Brewery. Much more exciting (for us as beer lovers) than Champagne itself.
