Would-be Vicki Butler-Hendersons are being invited take part in a racing scholarship sponsored by Michelin and Renault which is aiming to find some dynamic new talent in the mainly male-dominated world of motor racing.
The Michelin Renault Scholarship has been running for six years and was launched by British GT driver, Tim Sugden, to offer racing enthusiasts the opportunity to break into the fiercely competitive world of motorsport. The prize for winning the Scholarship is a fully-funded drive in the 2003 Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cup worth an £80,000.
However, Tim Sugden feels that ladies are really missing out on this opportunity as only a small percentage of those who enter the Scholarship are female. Thats why Sugden and the team at Michelin invited four motor-mad girls to try their luck at one of the first rounds, held at Blyton Airfield near Lincoln, on 16th October.
Sarah Bennett-Baggs, 29, from Maidenhead, Natalie Hulme, 22, from Market Drayton, Shropshire, Helen Connelly, 21, from Tonwell, Herts and Hannah Waters, 26, from Egham all took part.
If Sarah, Natalie, Helen or Hannah should make it all the way through to the Final and win the Scholarship, they will be up against 30 others, all fighting to win the first prize which comprises racing for Championship winning team, Tim Sugden Motorsport, in 2003. Everything will be paid for, including entry fees, race-suits, mechanics and full support from the Tim Sugden Motorsport team, who will run the car.
