Glitch: gears

I have 2 Chevelle's. One is bone stock, and has a 4 speed, as it should. My other Chevelle is tuned up all the way, and somehow has a 6 speed! Is this a glitch, or was I missing out on something? The Chevelle with the 6 speed has a custom transmision, would this have something to do with it?

Indeed the custom transmission would be why this has happened, It says the Racing transmission adds an extra gear and you got two. Id say you got a bargin there! its not a glitch. i have a BMW 2002 turbo and it only has four gears standard and when you put a racing transmission on that i think it ends up having 6 gears although i may be wrong.

Cheers :)

Racing tranny in GT3 took all cars to 6 speeds. GT4 seems to have some formula it uses to tell if a given car gets 5 or 6 or more (can you get more than 6?). I guess it gives the Chevelle 6...

WOW! Thats so awsome. All along, I never new that, even in my GT3 days! I can't believe I never figured it out! Thanks a lot... I no what I wil be doing for the next hour - giving all my cars a custom tranny!

Ive noticed that as well. I forget what car has 5 gears instead of 6 after the FCT but I thought it was kind of neat. Some cars just feel better with 5 gears rather than 6.

I agree, I like 5 gears on some cars rather than 6. What if I had a 6 spped tranny already, and I bought the full custom tranny, would I get 7 gears??

^most likely not. Just the ability to adjust the 6 gears independently.

i got an m5 and fully did it up and it ended up with 7 gears. Surely m5s dont have a 7 speed box as standard do they? Someone correct me if i'm wrong. Thanks

the M5 does have 7 speeds stock just like it does in real life, the only other cars I can think of with 76 are the Nissan GT-R concept and GT-R LM and the Formula GT. The Nike One has 8 gears.

If the game is sim enough the 4-door version of the Infiniti G35 (the GT-8) should have 8 forward gears. It has an 8 speed semi-auto in Enthusia. I'm not sure that that version of the car is even in this game though.

That's CVT, right? because CVT gearboxes get "swapped out" in the gearbox mod, so it's reset to 6... maybe.

not true, the Ford GT40 Race car kept its five speed gearbox even after when you bought the fully customisable transmission, but all the road cars that rule applies

The GT40, and i emphasise, RACE car didnt come with a custom transmission? Think im going to check that out when i get home. I would have thought this car would be like most of the other race cars and you can only change the type of tyres and a turbo, NA tune upgrade in GT3 with the supercharger option added in GT4. :odd:

I've got a mazda mx5 with racing tranny, and that only has a 5 speed box.

the GT-8 skyline isnt CVT

its entirely different
it changed rations according to torque levels///

BURN!, you made me look it up again, but I was right. The 8-speed is Nissan's latest iteration of its mechanical CVT (no belts, just gears). They've had the CVT for years, but didn't put it on anything but the 300hp mega-cruiser, the Gloria. They've finally put one of those great boxes in a sports sedan.

Nissan's contention is that its mechanical CVT (looks it up), excuse me, EXTROID CVT, can handle power better than a belt driven one can. They're probably right.

is there a way to cancel out the two extra gears?

Yes - change all the gear ratios back to standard. The top two gears wouldn't be needed.

Though why would you want to? A 4-speed Chevelle has a top speed of about 124mph. If you're going to stuff it full of power, wouldn't you want to take advantage of that?
