Glitch or bad controller?

I have been noticing a very minor "nudge" to the left during races. It appears to be random, and I don't notice it during other games. It is most notable in the straights when I am not providing any intentional steering input. I don't think it is a video artifact, appears to be from the controller. I just wondered if anyone else noticed it? Is this a sign of impending controller failure?

Make sure that it wasnt mechanical damage. (you probably already know this, but if not...)When your in race the image of your car with the tyre choices above and below it will turn red in sections that have damage. Dependong on where the damage is it can cause your car to pull left or right.

If that is not the case then I would guess it is the controller. Do you have a second one to try?

I dont experience this as of yesterday with my controller so I dont think it's an in-game glitch.

Same here...first I detected it yesterday in the daily A in the tunnel on the straight. I have 3 controllers, will tell you If the issue persists...but very strange and it doesn't feel like its the controller

I'm not 100% sure of the origin but had it happen before, when the game came out and when I was constantly grinding on the High Speed Ring race. Noticeable especially on the long straight.
I thought it was wind gusts because they always seemed to match the wind direction shown on the HUD. I asked on this forum and someone on this forum said I was right.

But then with the following patches I stopped getting those "nudges" on my DS4.
Recently I also changed controller (Nacon revolution pro 3). No "nudges" either.

I don't know if we're talking about the same thing, I'm talking about my experience offline. I rarely did daily races online.

Make sure that it wasnt mechanical damage.
If it's mechanical damage it is always VERY noticeable and the car pulls on one side for half a minute or something like that.
It's not a minor nudge that occurs for 1 second.

I dont know the op or his level of experience and he never mentioned duration so I was just covering all bases. That's also why I put "(you probably already know this but.....)"

After what killerman said I'm really curious and can't wait to get home to test this out.

Wow - glad it is not just me! It is very subtle.

I mostly race offline, and damage is usually a definite "pull" in one direction or another depending on where the damage is - so I don't think it is that - but I'll try and take note of it next time.

I did not think about the wind - IF it is "gusty" that might explain it.

I do have two controllers, so I will switch up and see if it continues. Problem is, there does not seem to be an area that it always happens - like on a particular track/section.

Thanks for all of the input.

I experienced this yesterday when running a custom race at Deep Forest reverse. Part way through the tunnels it felt like something had pushed against the left rear of my car. But it has happened more than a handful of times. I always chalked it up to turbulence in the tunnel.

My PS4 slim (and DS4) is a year old....next time I fire it up I'll plug in my son's old controller and see what happens.

Happens to me sometimes, but on right corners I notice this, as if I pushed steering left, but did nothing, in fact I did hold steering as one should in right corner...

First I tought it was due to te DualSense drift that many people have problems with, but considering that I have two controllers, one brand new, one a bit over a year old (extensivelly used on PC, PS4 and PS5) and this happens on both controllers (and my controllers don't have drift as of now), I think it has something to do with game... Probably... Not sure though...

I have had this happen but not for a while now. Car would suddenly pull a hard left like the car suddenly became unsettled and something pushed it from the right. It’s not a controller issue as I’ve been using the same controller since and not had it happen for over a month now. It seems it’s a bug with the game itself no idea what causes it. Would always seem to happen in the X2019 for me.

Happens to me as well only on straights like a glitchy pull to the left, happens with multiple controllers. First thought it was analog drift but all my other games are fine with the same controllers. On PS5 by way if that matters.

I bought a used PS4Pro in December, the controller that comes with it also has a slight damage on the left stick.. sometimes it steers very slightly forward/up... Of course you don't notice it when driving the GT.. but In all menus where you have a cursor, you will notice it.. if the stick is pushed down a little to the middle position and you then no longer touch it, it stays there.. but slight vibrations or shaking the pad are enough already off and he moves the arrow up again. This is a clear mechanical defect and if yours really pulls to one side.. then you could watch it in the menus.. if it stays there all the time.. everything is fine and it's the car/the track/the wind/weather.

I normally test my controller inputs on F1 or Dirt (as they have an option in the settings specifically for it) so if you have either of those games maybe check there. Would be nice if GT7 had a similar option though I guess with the limited controller settings anyway there isn't that much point in it

Take the controller apart and give it a good clean, maybe there's just somthing on the potentiometers that confuses them.

Happens sometimes in time trial as soon as I get control of the car from the initial auto-drive. I usually just restart the event and it goes away

Anyone with a wheel experience this?

So far, if I am reading the replies right, this occurs on PS4 and PS5 (what I am using) controllers.

I like the description that says it feels like your getting a slight tap from behind - but there is no one there! Maybe it's the ghost car.:)

Well, this has been resolved. It was my controller. Eventually the dreaded "stick drift" went full tilt and was completely unusable. The good news - even though the controller was no longer under warranty, Sony replaced it with a one day turn around! Cost me $11 to send it in for repairs, but that is less expensive than buying a new one. Cheers to Sony for that - of course, it never should have happened in the first place.

This was with the PS5 DualSense, right? Did they happen to send you a newer version? The FCC ID on the newer ones end with an "A" IIRC and the first gen ended with a "1".

Had an issue with a touch pad on one of mine which I had to retire and I get a little bit of drift at times with my original one. The latest I have is a 2nd gen and has been working fine. .....allegedly, the newer controllers are better in that regard.

On a side note, I read an article a couple weeks back that there may be a new controller coming out from Sony may have significantly redesigned internals that could make this issue a thing of the past.

Glad you got it sorted as I can fully understand (from experience) just how annoying this can be.

Glad the problem had been solved.

Anyway, an easy way to find out if the controller is drifting is too plug it on a computer with Windows and use the native Game Controllers application.

Under Advanced (or Settings, it's been a while) you have a tool to calibrate the pad.

Any drift will be clearly noticeable there.
