Well it took me a while to finally get started on this after such a busy weekend and barely any free time over the past couple of days. But here we are, I managed to get in just under an hours worth tonight, of the new, God of War.
First impressions are great. The quality is superb whilst playing and there's no framerate issues to interfere with whilst playing. The environment you start off in is vast, on a scale I can't say I've seen on any of the previous games, apart from when you're fighting Kronos the Titan, in God of War III. Visually fantastic.
I've only just finished Chapter Four, (I think?). There doesn't seem to be any specific change of chapters whilst progressing through the game, unless that's yet to come further on. Something I'm not quite fond of is there's no save points, as in earlier titles. There only seems to be Auto-Save, which granted, does save on a regular basis, but I'd rather be able to stop and continue playing at a point I'm happy with. I was worried about quiting, incase I ended up further back than when I stopped, by I re-loaded and it was fine.
I'm yet to aquire any special items from chests, like - Gorgon Eyes, Phoenix Feathers, etc. They've made a return though, so I'm glad about that. Same with Red Orbs, you still use these to power up your weapons, and you also open the chests in a cool new way.
The gameplay is still good old, Kratos Destroys Everything, gameplay, which I'm happy about. I was anticipating the style you play in to have changed drastically, but it hasn't so I'm quite pleased. Trophies also seem to be relatively easy to collect and mainly story related, like before.
There doesn't appear to be any kind of accurate story line as of yet, as Mcfizzle mentioned above. Everything so far seems to be going down the route of newly introduced characters, called The Furies, and Kratos' past. I'm enjoying it though, I was engaged in the action for the first hour of playing and I'm quite excited about going back to play more tomorrow.
I haven't played Multi-player yet, so no input on that from me I'm afraid.
