Goodbye! GT5 My Home and Photo Stream.

No more Online support for GT5?

No more Online seasonal? No more OCD?
no more shared tracks?

I am not a big online user, but i nevertheless would like to know the impact of this please.

Wow, Servers wont be up like i expected.

From a Marketing viewpoint it would be wise to keep GT5 going till they are sure GT6 has taken off; so while they've given the Photo Stream and My Home to GT6, other GT5 Online services will remain in place. As GT5 activity dies down, and GT6 takes off, the emphasis will be on giving GT6 the full-bore treatment.
How long would this be? That only they will know as time stamps its approval. 6 months? A year? Not longer for sure.

It was fine for me yesterday.....

November 29th is the cut-off point for Photo Stream and GT5 My Home.

It says that they are shutting these bits down on the website, it says nothing about the game servers. I think it would be a bit odd killing the servers 8 - 9 days before GT6 drops....

Yes, but it also singles the end for the GT5 servers. I suspect as photorider said, that the GT5 servers will remain up for a while, but I would be impressed if we make it to 6 months from GT6's launch before the focus and servers shift to the new game. Especially with GT7 projected to be a year or two from GT6's launch. I will most like bid farewell to my copy of GT5 soon in preparation for GT6's release.

RIP GT5.

Bring on GT6!! :D

The King is dead!
Long live the King!

Chorus*:

Now, the tyrant is dead and his servers are free

I am going ahead with the reinvented GT
Now the king lies here dead,
now the king lies here dead

* Might have misheard some of the words...

Let's hope GT6 will feature better online services than its predecessor, I'll miss GT5.

Maybe one last online session before I hang it up "forever"? Nah! Bring it GT6!

Makes sense to me, they need to have some time to setup the servers for GT6, upgrade them, test them, etc.

It really is a somber moment. Good bye GT5!!

It is. It's hard to say goodbye to an old friend that one has lived with for so long. In fact it seems like saying goodbye to one's present girlfriend, knowing fully well that you have set your sights on another.

But, will GT6 fulfill all our fantasies? How many times have we ditched a partner only to find out the new one was worse?
And then there are those who will play both; using one for what the other cannot give.

Interesting developments ahead.. . .

I have to admit I've been expecting the GT5 servers to sty up for at least a while after GT6 launch. I hope they do as I think it would leave a pretty bad taste in some peoples mouths that aren't getting GT6 right away.

The multiplayer servers aren't going away, just the ability to control GT Life from the internet, and stream your photos through to GT's website, there has been no announcement regarding the shutting down of in-game online services like multiplayer or seasonal challenges. They'll be supported well past GT6's release.

The GT5 Prologue servers didn't go down for another 5 months after the release of GT5, they may fallow suit.

Even if GT6 has better things than GT5, it will NEVER amount to anything like GT5 did. Hybriding made GT5 fun, well, even without Hybriding GT5 was fun. The game has made it's mark on Gaming history as being the first full Gran Turismo game for PS3. I always loved going online and showing off my cars, it gave me something to do when I was tired with A/B spec. No matter how much PD tries, they will never be able to get rid of GT5. LONG LIVE GRAN TURISMO 5!!!

Will you still be able to access GT Life even if the online services are disabled for it?

As it says in the OP, which is a graphic of the message displayed via the NEWS menu when you log into GT Life Online, the Online GT5 Services, other than GT5 My Home and GT5 Photo Stream, will remain in place for a limited time.
We don't know how long as yet; apparently further details are to follow.

.......SnipX......... LONG LIVE GRAN TURISMO 5!!!
Amen.
:)

Obviously we won't be able to access GT Life Online if the online services are disabled, but we would surely be able to access GT Life in our Game Save offline.

Seasonals, TTs, OD*, other stuff between members that are transacted via GT5 Online would be gone.

*Online Dealership.

There is no real 'if' about it, Frogman, :) ; they will shut down GT5 Servers - but not right away.
Taking into consideration the histories of various other servers of similar nature shutting down as a particular iteration of a game was upgraded, it would be safe to assume that GT5 Online Servers, that give us the Open Lobby and other related Online interactions, will be around for some time longer - months, many months. One might even hope for a full year before they shut down completely.
By then they would have hoped for GT6 to have established itself and that many GT5ers would have migrated over to GT6.
They won't be throwing away that huge GT5 database of players worldwide overnight.
Not until a significant number of that market (all? :D) have crossed over safely to GT6.

No. It's not 'Goodbye! GT5'. Not yet. 👍
