Got my first speeding ticket, what should I do?

I got nailed in Lake County, Illinois doing 94 in a 55 (it was higher, i think the cop knocked it down since my record was clean) at age 17.

I went to court, dressed nicely in khakis and a polo, with my mom and was as remorseful as possible (even though it was BS i did nothing wrong) and the ticket fee was waved, 30 days probabtion, and 3 day driving class.

I had to pay for the class, but other than that i got off extremely easy. So if you're willing to go to SC, just try to dress professional and just act frightened and remorseful and you should get it knocked down in some way.

Heh, this kid went in a red polo and black dress pants (hardly professional attire however) and still got it knocked down...

94 in a 55 and you "didn't do anything wrong"?

1. This was a while ago, please don't call me "kid" as if i'm inferior to you.
2. Polo and khakis beats wife beater and cut off jeans like the rest of the people at the court house
3. There wasnt a car within minimum 1/4 mile in front and behind and it was on a relatively new highway that was smooth. Cop just happened to be sitting on and entrance ramp (i still see cops there, and its dangerous, especially during the night)
4. Yes i broke the arbitrary speed limit of 55 MPH, but that's another discussion for another day. But I've hit faster speeds since, never been involved in an accident haven't had another ticket. I never speed in excess when there are cars around or when i have passengers. Sometimes on those empty roads it's fun use some of that available torque and horsepower.

you mean you ddient pull a tommy boy and run out of the car slapping the air screaming "BEEEEEE's!!!!!!!"

maybe thats just me...

1. Wasn't referring to you as "kid". I was referring to the guy who talked down the 7X in a 45. (For those familiar with Metro Detroit, he got nailed near I-94 on Telegraph)

2. True...

3. If the limit's 55, it's usually 55 for a reason. That reason doesn't always have to do with the amount of traffic on the road.

4. Well, congratulations on making it so far without an accident. And yes, it may be fun to open it up on the emptier stretches, but being lucky so far doesn't excuse the fact you're breaking the law, nor does the fact that it's reasonably safe to do a good bit over the limit on some sections of US highways.

I know that cops around here like new drivers who speed...

So I won't be doing that except to keep up with traffic flow.

94 in a 55 is never okay at 17. SLOW DOWN!!!!!

Another thing that PISSES ME OFF is when people say "I hit 100 in a 55 and got caught but there wasn't a car for MILES!" Well, durrrrrrrrrrrr the cop was there, wasn't he?? That's a car, and it's a car you could've hit. I confess to doing a crazy >100mph high speed run every now and then. I drive the highway TWICE to clear it for cops and ANY other vehicles stopped on the shoulder; then I wait for at LEAST a 20-second break between ANY cars on the highway. Only then do I make the run... and the second I hit the target speed I slow my ass down and get the **** off the highway. I haven't been north of 105 in seven months and I'm perfectly fine with that.
