im doing consistent 32s now. best of 1:32.004 or something like that. Cant seem to break 31 yet. I know i need to work on my setup. I have a guy helping me with that a bit. I think I know how to tune the tire alignment, but have to figure out some of the other stuff.

Oh, i just ran the ring last night for the first time, in the ferrari. omfg!!! thats the most amazing experience. I still cant complete a lap without spinning. my memory isnt good enough to anticipate what comes up next in a few places. but sheesh is it fun. the ultimate ballet between throttle and brakes. I often get the chassis unsettled, so it is good practice for car control.

btw, i cant seem to get the really high exit speed out of lesmo 2 and parabolica yet........ but i am just loving the game for the car control......... it has helped me so much so far.

I would be playing it non stop except my graphics card is the most poo thing ever and can't take it what so ever. An 8Mb tridant. The rest of my PC is good like 1.3mhz processor, but i still need the graphics card. I downloaded everything for this fame as well and was originally getting quite good on the keys. But you cant really use a key board with it. To get the full glory and experiance with the game I'm gonna need a wheel. Any suggestions of a good cheapy one that would do the job any one?

I was just looking into this today. It looks good to me and I want it. I don't have a wheel, though, or a very good monitor. I'd probably play it on my 15.4" wide aspect laptop.

I played it on my mates laptop, and it's ok just for idling around in and around tracks with teh keys, btu you can't seriously race with it...

Biased turkey
I installed GPL on my PC 2 weeks ago, but for sure the graphics don't look as good as the pics you posted. Is it what they call the GPL 2004 demo ?
Too bad the Racesimcentral server has been down for several days.
I've got the updated cars on my PC. If you have MSN, I can transfer them to you. The files vary from 2mb to 6.6mb.

Thank you for accepting to transfer the updated cars, but it won't be necassary anymore because I downloaded and installed the GPL demo 2004 ( 80 MB ) and it's
just fantastic . The cars are the modified cars and Watkins Glen is super detailed. I just had to copy the other tracks from my original GPL CDROM.

Hey, I still play GPL :D
In fact, I play in four different GPL leagues :D (yes, I'm a bit crazy :P ).
Even for a 6 year-old game, there's nothing that beats it (and let's face it, GPL is more "real" than GT4, even if Nascar2003 and GTR are more realistic now (they ought to be) ;) ).

i don't think anyone who has done real racing will say GT4 is real.

BTW, how do i get the original tracks to work in the 2004 demo?

Very easy, just drop the directories (is this word right? LOL) of the tracks on the GPL cd on the c:\sierra\gpl\tracks directory (again, is this the right word). ofcourse, you'll then need the graphic addons, but with some many gpl pages down recently, I can't be much of a help...

Man, I havn't played GPL in years. I was really into it for a while than I got Gran Turismo and I havn't played GPL since. I'm going to get it out now and play it.

I play GPL too.

It's so great! But I haven't installed new cars. Only a few tracks..

But this doesn't matter because I'm only driving the nordschleife :D

Great track and a lot of emotions. Perhaps I could start a server so we could race a GTP Planet Server. Of course just for fun.

Ok... I've seen the cover of this game and it is really old. Why does that pic look so good!? Why should I buy this game? Convince me it's better or as good a GTR and maybe I will. :D

It only costs 5€ ;) You can install loads of tracks, cars and graphic modifications. There's a new mod (turbomod?).

It's much more harder than GTR. It's much more realistic and it'S the best racing game ever.

So go for it. If you're lucky you'll find a copy in your game store. If you're unlucky you've to look at ebay.

Bye

:dopey: It will play on my apparently obsolete laptop too! But what do you mean by harder?! GTR is already hard without a wheel! :scared:

Amazon has them used for $10 with free shipping (I think?).

Forget all about this baby cars man! GPL is definitely harder. You need to drive a track more than once. But don't worry. Check setup-guru.com out to load some setups.

if you need some I'll help you. I've some on my hard drive. Driving the Isle of Man or the Nordschleife. That's so cool.

I don't know how much € $10 are, sorry. Go buy it nevertheless.

I just pulled GPL out of a dusty box in my closet and man do I suck at it. I used to be pretty good but I haven't played it in years so I'm beginning from square 1. I don't have a wheel either do its all about the keyboard.

Does anyone know which car was the easiest to drive to get my skills up?

Same here. It's the hardest game ever. I dunno how the passage is calles where you drive over a bridge after you passed Hatzenbach. My wheel is always getting loose. Thats amazing. You've to cope with your car by trailbraking etc.

Awesome.

Well... graphics wise it kinda sucks... (GT2 quality :indiff: ) But the idea behind the whole game 👍

Just install the graphics update (dunno where to find) and have fun. even you've a geforce 3 you can set the screen resolution to 1280x1024. It won't judder.

Try it man!

Woa, GPL sure is great. But isn't that the demo De Bolle?

Yep it is. But if you own the original version, you can patch it by installing the 2004 demo in the same directory. That way you can play the original game with great graphics! It still is a beatiful game. Take a drive on Silverstone or Spa in the Gurney Eagle, and you'll see what I mean!!

I just bought the full version (2001) :D. Can you give any further explaination, because I don't wan't to overwrite the old game seave by mistake. :indiff:

It's very easy. Download the GPL Demo 2004 (it comes only with the Glen, New York) and install it at your harddrive. Then, just copy the other 10 tracks from the CD to c:\sierra\gpl (or whatever root you have)\tracks :)
