I'm looking to get a bluetooth GPS receiver for my Dell X50v handheld. It's a Pocket PC and it has Windows Mobile. I'm wondering if a receiver such as:

Can work with my PDA... My Dell has Bluetooth so there's no problem there, but I'm really wondering about what software I'd need to make it work, because most of these adapters seem to be aimed at smartphone usage plus I believe that particular GPS adapter I want to buy doesn't include any software (It's meant to work with separate GPS software packages, hence the low price I assume).

I'm not computter illiterate and although I'm relatively new to GPS technology, I believe I have the means to make it work; my only obstacle right now is that I'm not sure about how GPS software works. I've heard of this Garmin suite but I believe that is exclusively for usage with their own devices.

Any help from someone knowledgeable on the subject is greatly appreciated.

That's similar to what I have on my HP iPAQ running PocketPC 2003 (yes, it's that old, 2003 was an upgrade, and I still carry it daily. Unbeatable screen, reflective, readable in full sun.) I have a Holux Bluetooth GPS recevier and use it with the iPAQ running DeLorme Street Atlas.

Street Atlas is a full-featured PC routing and mapping program, about 40 bucks, includes the mobile application to install on your Palm or PocketPC (=Windows Mobile nowadays) handheld, and you can send maps and routes to the handheld. If the points are close enough you can even route on the handheld. (You can route long routes, too, but you can drive there before the handheld device has it calculated.) I see you in Mexico, so I can't answer to their availability there, but I'd think they'd have a presence.

For something free, download Google Maps Mobile, an awesome application (especially since it's free!) that will map and track by GPS on the Windows Mobile handheld. Just browse on the handheld to Google, search for Google maps mobile. Google Maps Mobile can display a map view or a satellite view which uses the Google Earth imagery. Cool! On your handlheld you can track by GPS and look like Google Earth. Have to have a data plan to use it, and if it's got download limits, you better be careful how much you use it.

Thanks for the response, wfooshee. My PDA is only that-- It doesn't have a GPRS antenna or works as a cellphone so I can't try google maps on it (but I have tried it on a cellphone, it's nice).

It seems like Street Atlas includes maps for US, Canada and only highways and roads for Mexico, but not street level maps (Which is sad news, because I visit the US regularly, would've been nice to have the maps for both countries). I wonder if there would be any kind of software which I could load some preset maps to instead of having them preloaded.
