I heard that Gr.2 group was going to be added soon.

The Gr.2 group would be made up of Super GT cars, supposedly.

But the Super GT cars are equivalent to the GT3 cars. The power of the GT500 category is similar to the GT3 cars and the current Blancpain competition.

I am confused.

Would not it be better to put Super GT cars in the Gr.3 group?

The group Gr.2 would be destined to GT1 cars, such as:

Mclaren P1
Mclaren F1
Ford GT
Ferrari Enzo GT
La Ferrari GTR (fictional)
Lambo Veneno (fictional)
Bugatti Veyron (requalification)
Maserati MC12
Mercedes CLK GTR
Saleen S7
Pagani Zonda
Koenisegg Agera
Mercedes Project One
Aston Martin Vulcan
Porsche Spyder 918
Porsche 911 GT1
Etc.
Etc.

nooooooooooooo.

IIRC, GT300 is around the same speed as GT3 (usually faster), whereas GT500 is ridiculously fast, bordering on LMP territory

We aren’t sure how powerful current Super GT cars are, but estimates are that they have more than 650hp

I think Group 2 would make sense if it had GT500s and the like.

GT500 is still called GT500 because fans are used to it, when in reality they make 650-700bhp. In other words, GT500 is the 90s GT-1 class on steroids.

Which confused me at first given that it's still called GT500. At least the GT300 name still works given that they run alongside GT3s. GTS could also add modern GT300s to the Group 3 class.

I do not remember. I'm sure to read something about it in October after the release. I can have SuperGT associated with Gr.2, accidentally. But I still think to read that somewhere.

That's why i used "supposedly"

This doesn't have the word "supposedly" in it:
I heard that Gr.2 group was going to be added soon.
I can't find any source for either the claim that Gr.2 is going to be added, or that it will be "soon" - and if you heard about it in October, when would "soon" have been referring to anyway?

The rest of your first post seems to be confusion about your own supposition:

Unless you can find a source saying Gr.2 cars are coming, coming soon, and made up of Super GT cars, it all looks like unfounded speculation.

Which is a pity. We'd like a source for this as it would make for a decent article on the news section of the site.

Consider Group 1 is LMP1 + Concepts, Group 3 aka GT3 is around 500-600hp and 1250-1300kg... It would be common sense to assume GR2 is going to be SGT. 600-700hp and 1100kg won't mix with GT3's.

So whilst their's nothing official yes, it would be rather silly to discount the idea.

I'd be surprised if they didn't add Super GTs later down the line anyway. Group 2 can be for GT500s (Modern ones would be way too fast for GT3), and modern GT300s would probably work fine in Group 3 given that they run alongside GT3s in real life anyway.

I'm rather surprised that nobody knows Kaz's tweet back in October about SGT cars. THIS is a pity.
Kaz did not mention "when" though.

There's a giant, yawning chasm between "we plan to do this thing" and "this thing is coming soon". Not that the Tweet even says Super GT is coming as Gr.2, it just says "it" (assuming "it" to be Super GT) is planned for DLC. So we're pretty much as we were then - it's something possible, perhaps even planned, but not really the breaking news I was hoping for...

Still, if we assume that Super GT is coming, the question is how an LMP2 - like GT6's Zytek Greaves - would fit into the groups if Gr.1 contains LMP1s and Gr.2 contains Super GTs...

They're roughly the same speed, LMP2/SGT, they could be BoP'd together? That'd be a wacky grid.

I think the LMP2 will be ignored. I have the feeling that this category is not as exciting and there are not many fans like the others.
Unless those go into GR.X? If PD model cars like the Deltawing, I figure that's the home for those car types. Could include LMP2. Maybe?

My opinion is that the VGTs and Gr.X cars are not even to participate in SPORT competitions. Only in the lobbies and GtLeague.

I find these cars without spirituality and charisma.

I would do so: Gr.1: LMP1 current and vintage. Gr.2: Super GT (GT500), DTM and FIA GT1 (vintage) Gr.3: GT3, GT2, IMSA GT Daytona, GT300. I do not know. Is very difficult. BOP would have to do a herculean job.

I like this idea.

As for LMP2s, aren't they up over 500 horsepower now? If so maybe they could go into Group 2 and/or 1.

I don't have the game, but does the LM55 participate as a Gr.1?

I think the better thing to do would be to split prototypes off into their own category. The current Gr.1 could become Gr.P1. Gr.P2 could include LMP2s and IMSA DPIs. Historic prototypes will be difficult to fit in these classes. Group C could be is own thing, but where do 60s/70s Le Mans cars fit? Each era almost needs to have its own category.

Super GT and modern DTM make sense for Gr.2, and with the prototypes out of the way spiritual successors to 90s GT1 could be put into the new Gr.1. Historic GT1 cars may be able to fit, but BOP could be difficult.

GTE/GTLM would have made sense for Gr.2, but PD already forced the 911 RSR into Gr.3 instead of giving us the more appropriate 911 GT3 R. Power and weight are similar, but GTE/GTLM cars have significant aero advantages over their GT3 counterparts.

Actually, there is no "it" or any subject in the Tweet. Japanese conversations are always ambiguous, but here he is clearly admitting "something" is planned as DLC replying to a Tweet pointing out absence of Gr.2 cars and expectations for SGT cars. So, it is more natural to understand Gr.2 is reserved for SGT (GT500) cars.

I really don't understand why you care about LMP2 class which has absolute no sign of inclusion in GT Sport at the moment. BoP will do something about it anyway.

If Super GT make a lil over 600hp, I doubt well see LMP2 run in the same class.
The latest LMP2 cars have a little over 600bhp and qualified at Le Mans in 3.26. That's 3 seconds quicker than the late 90's, early 00's overall pole winners, the Toyota GT-One and Audi R8.

Say for instance the three super gt cars (NSX/Lexus/GTR) are what we think they are..

And say for instance they do go into a brand new class called Gr2..

That’s three cars for a whole class, I realise they can add to that in the future but that would be so boring for sport mode

Are you trying to say GT500 are slower or faster than LMP2? GT500 are faster than LMP2
We actually don't know because the new lmp2's only run one track where Super GT runs- Fuji. Last year the race was completely wet for the WEC round at Fuji, so we can't get a dry comparison until this year (hopefully) if it's dry. Even then, the times of year are different so the temperature is off. That might skew things a little because Super GT runs when it's very warm at Fuji which will slow the times. In preseason testing this year at Fuji, Super GT GT500's have been in the 1:28's for fast laps. They're usually in the 1:32's during race pace because they're full of fuel and have success ballast added to their minimum weight (1020+kg).
