Gran Turismo 6 continously crashes my PS3.

As many have said your blu ray is dying, did all the above myself and nothing helped, replaced Blu Ray and everything back to normal.

It's really not hard to swap out the blu-ray laser. Get a PS3 screwdriver kit from Amazon or Ebay plus the laser WITH the deck that has the 4 screw-holes. It took me less than an hour to do it while following a youtube tutorial. If you can change your own oil on your car, you have the discipline necessary to do this.

Actually, if you miss having a working PS3, you'll get it done regardless if you think you can do it or not. I went without GT6 for over a week and it was killing me. I was determined.

Try disabling/deleting music playlist > not just turning music volume off/O volume in sound menu (later, just turns volume off , but music is still streaming/reading from bR in background)

Go into > garage > gallery > music > playlists and delete playlist for "race music". Doing this will disable music(streaming) , so if problem is in your blu-ray drive getting wear off, it may help.

This seems to have fixed the lockups I was having in several of the seasonal races. :)

Ok so I have a good old 80 GB backwards compatible that got ylod once and I had professionally re-balled and never gave me problems again till i bough gt 6 last week and the problems started. I bought the digital copy so its not blue ray disc and i already replaced the harddrive and it stills crashes and blinks red after i put in my name for the first time. At first I dled the game not knowing of all the update problems that it had so i dled all updates at once so it didnt work I googled and saw all the problems of updating gt6 and then i got around it the second time updating from the xmb standing on gt6 triangle check for updates manually installing all updates one by one stopping after each individual install and then entering the game make the in-game update install back out and repeat till I arrived at 1.15 so i was like yay I did it. I started playing and after entering name I went on to the tutorial race when no matter how many times i tried it would always crash at the second tip of following the driving line bla bla bla. Over heat its another possibility of course but i can watch netflix for hours an nothing happens i have also tried any other free game available and no problems with tekken revolution soul calibur dust or defiance. I am right now on my third attempt to install gt6 and i figured i tried to pass the tutorial race after i dled the game with no updates but it didn't work i crashed after entering game for first time in game cant get to the tutorial race now, I get the 3 beeps and then stays flashing red but wont rebbot on its own. Will try updating once more to 1.15 but i dont expect anything different to happen at this point plz help any ideas are very much appreciated and thanks in advance.

These seem like a different problem from my freezing, mine is limited solely to restarting seasonal events too quickly after going off track, it feels very much like a network issue as it ceases when the system is offline.
Mine also does this on arcade/time trial and garage/free run

Try to disconnect your PS3 from the internet so that it runs completely offline. Haven't had a single crash since.

I had thé same issue and I had to format my PS3. Make sure you update as follows to prevent issues. After you have completely updated disconnect your PS3 from the net!

Use thé méthode @@Churni discribes. It's helping out a lot!

1. Place GT6 disc
2. Connect to the internet
3. Press traingle while on GT6 disc
4. Choose check for updates
5. Download about 5 updates
6. Cancel rest of the updates
7. Disconnect PS3 from the internet
8. Startup GT6
9. After GT6 home screen arrives, you'll sée your current GT6 version.
10. Quit game

Repeat step 3/10 until updates are installed

Do you do that after deleting game data?

Are you 100% sure that it'll work for anyone with a GT6 problem? because I'm having a lot of trouble with gt6, it's been about a couple of months now and it's getting really annoying.

I have to restart the game everytime I complete a seasonnal event in order to be able to take part of the next lap/race, otherwise when I go to play it I'll end up with a endless black screen with the music playing in the background.

Whenever I play online I can't hear anyone's mic while the rest of the lobby can hear each other.

And when I leave the lobby I'm stuck on the exit screen and eventually I hear bips.

Sometime when I paint my cars I get a black screen with the music playing and I can't do anything but wait until I hear bips.

I can anyone perfectly in any other games I play, it only happens in GT6.

So my question is, can your solution fix all of that as well? Because today I've decided to delete my game data and reinstall all the games updates and everything. I'm still installing them as I speak, I have no idea if it'll change anything, I seriously hope it will.

100% sure I cannot say of course but for me it solved the issues and GT6 is running fine. However I didn't do any restore on m'y PS3. After thé format I rebuild from scratch with only savegames restored afterwards.

If you go this route be sure of the conséquences it has for you. Make sûre youhave a full backup!

Do you do that after deleting game data?

1. I backupped my PS3
2. I went in to the PS3 Safe Mode Menu
3. Reformatted the system (factory default)
4. Followed the steps I discribed in my previous post.

* I did not restore any data from my backup yet! So it's a clean PS3 with solely GT6. After all updates were installed I placed back only my GT6 savegame. Since then I have not had a single issue with freezing or crashing. My PS3 is also still disconnected from the net while playing GT6.

For the rest I chose to redownload any purchase I made on PSN.

I'm going to use your way another day, I don't want to spent my life downloading all the updates again. it took me the whole afternoon, it finished around 2:00 in the morning. haha

Do you go online with GT6? because I spend most of my time online.

Did you have to buy them again or the game kept them? or do you have to store them on a USB? Because I have quite a lot of things that I don't want to lose in case I ever decide to do what you did.

Hi Powerslide77,

I only play Offline and I noticed the game runs smoother.

The purchases I have made within PSN are connected to my account so I can redownload them whenever I want. There is no additional charge. Furthermore I don't own that many downloads or have that many things installed on my PS3. It's not a machine packed with huge amounts of content.

For what GT6 is concerned: I made a backup of my savegame to a USB disc and after reinstalling and running the GT6 tutorial race I overwrote the new savegame with my backupped one. No issues at all.

Hi, I would ask you if you could try to connect your PS3 online and start GT6 to see if everything is fine but I don't want it to ruin all you've done to make it run correctly.

Thank you, I'll try this another day because the game is running pretty much correctly except a few issues I've had since a couple updates so I'll leave it as it is for now it allows me to still play online correctly. But I'll definitely copy paste all your process in case it gets worse for me. Thanks again. :)

UPDATE - My freezing problem seems to have lessened with no input from myself recently, I am also wondering if this could be a NAT issue, as I said before and doblocruiser confirms the game is startlingly faster offline.

I had this happen to me back in October on my first gen 80g then a short while after I got the yold... not sure if that had anything to do with it or not but that was my experience. But I finally sent it in to play-station to get it fixed and hope they send me my gt6 which was stuck in it. The withdrawals have been real....

My ps3 crashes all the time in gt6. Its not just at one stage it can be at anytime during the game. I also have to do an update for gt6 and i have 17gb free on my ps3 but when i go to do the update it say i need 3000mb to do the update.

I'm having something similar lately. At first I thought it's just Seasonal events, but now I get it in offline career events too.

The 700PP events at Tokyo R246 a few weeks back, and this week's Sierra event takes 10 minutes to load. The game shows the track and opponent list, but pressing the start race button does nothing. The music keeps going in the background (and repeats twice no problem).

Today, I tried doing the Le Mans 24 Minutes offline, and it also takes 10 minutes to load.

I was connected to PSN, so I thought it's a server issue. But even after I disconnected the problem remains when I try to reenter the race.

I cleared the cache under Options, and also defragged the PS3 HDD under Safe Mode, but the problem still remains.

Oddly other career events, arcade mode and free run are unaffected. The races loads as quickly as ever.

It's not a HDD issue, as I have a couple of downloaded games from PSN (Driver SF, WipeOut) and they play perfectly fine.

It's also not a bluray drive issue, as I have a couple of disc games with no HDD install and they play perfectly fine.

My conclusion:
- Not online issue
- Not HDD issue
- Not bluray issue
- Not an issue with most parts of the game
- Therefore, the issue is confined to loading large grids of 700PP/LMP cars

I'm thinking with the way GT6 installs data (background install, updates, patches, VGT movies) the HDD sector that contains LMP cars gets jumbled somehow. That's why the problem is isolated for those specific events only. The only solution would be to delete all game data and reinstall, but it will all get jumbled again with the next VGT update so I'm just going to avoid those events for now :irked:
